Tea Time

Ξ April 14th, 2008 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Art-tastic |

Inspired by a tea bag wrapper that I have had in a box of priceless scraps for the past few years. I bought several new kinds of tea this weekend and as my hubby and I were sipping the India Spice Chia tea I decided to journal a page from the Zen tea bag wrapper. The tag adds a bit of pizzazz to the allover effect of the journal. The sparkles in the yarn catch the eye and add interest. I have a fortune cookie wrapper that has a bee on it and I have been wanting to do something with bees for a while so that might show up in my journal soon. Bee on the look out.

I drew this silly picture of the bouquet of Forsythia with crayon the other night. The bouquet that we picked was beginning to wilt and I wanted to remember. I’ve really enjoyed having such a massive bouquet in my art area and wanted to draw it whimsically. The flowers are going to be replaced today with something fresh so I have to put on my creative flower hat. I’m off to dig up my hat!

Carpe Diem!

Today’s journal entry was inspired by the cross I have been working on for my mom. She collects crosses and has quite a vast collection hanging in her bedroom. I have a small collection of “3″ that I have by my desk. The one with the heart hanging from it was a gift from my mom. =) It’s also my favorite.

Here’s the finished cross I’ve made to gift her in return.

Happy Friday – and Gold Bless!

Art Squared

Today’s entry of my art journal, I didn’t get as far as I wanted on this but am posting it anyway. I’ll likely go back and add what I have in mind later tonight. I was very busy with a few other projects today and wanted to finish one and get the other one further along. I did finish my fairy princess hanging! I am also much further along on the paper cross I’m making for my mom. Here’s my little wallhanging —-

Spring is in the air and I’ve been keeping the doors open a bit during the day. We ventured out to below our deck on an overhang and picked this bouquet of forsythia last night. I livens up the room quite a bit, as you can see, it’s rather LARGE! =)

Looks like Springtime confetti!

Shining Star

Ξ April 10th, 2008 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Art-tastic |

This gave birth to itself really. I just started and before I knew it I had a glittering moon dancing above the stars. You can’t tell here but the black stars are very glossy. I started the paper cross for my mom and it’s between layers at the moment on my desk with a coat of wet gesso, so I thought I’d get this up while it dried. My Princess hanging is getting closer to done as well. I have 1 more art card to make for it an then I can string it together and hang it. Since I was feeling especially creative today I thought I’d make lasagna for dinner. I can’t believe I actually had the ingredients. =) Below is a paper Chinese New Years dragon I made a few years. It’s supposed to have dowels inserted to hold so you can use it as a puppet, but I didn’t have the dowels at the time. Nor did I have the heart to spear my dragon!

This is the whole dragon…

And this is a close up of his head.

I got the beeswax today that I ordered Sunday night from hiveharvest.com. I couldn’t wait to try it so I melted a small chunk of it and applied to inside of my journal cover.
I didn’t have the proper brush or iron to smooth it out so I used my heat gun. I can see it’s going to be very fun and open new creative doors when I start working with it. I smells awesome, it’s very comforting and perfect for sipping tea while creating.
Here’s a sneak peek at the Fairy Princess. I’m doing this with very old glasses so be kind. =)

I’ll leave you with this teaser and get back to my fun and my lasagna creation. Have a great day. God Bless!

Once Upon A Time…

Ξ April 9th, 2008 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Art-tastic |

I started this project on a whim. (Much like most projects get started.) I will ribbon it together and hang it above my desk to inspire me as I create. I’ll post it when it’s complete which should be in a few days. I spent the better part of the day painting and journaling with breaks in between on the Nordic Track to stretch my legs. This is a fun little project that will brighten my art corner and show some of my work to my family when they visit. I’m looking forward to completing it. For now I’m off to finish dinner and get a quick bath in before the evening begins. Enjoy… and see you later. =)

I’m Growing Places!

Ξ April 7th, 2008 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Art-tastic |

This is it. This is my very first journal page. It’s just a test run on small index cards on a metal ring binder, but it’s the start of creativity at long last. I had a lot of fun. I used Gesso, watercolor crayons, torn papers, and printed out the I’m growing places.
My fingers are officially dirty. =) While I was digging through supplies to use I came across more of my old art. I scanned the paper dolls below and plan to work them into future journal covers. I used to have them in my old house as a border around the top of the room. What fun!

One of my favorites is the little doctor. I used the hair net they gave me at the hospital when I had my surgery. Paper dolls can be rather addicting so if you plan to start them make sure you have a good chunk of time and space to play with. I have a notebook dedicated to them and plan to work them into my art. Use your imagination! There are no fashion police for paper dolls. =)

I call this Scuba Steve. I made it for a male friend of mine. But he was forward enough to say he didn’t like it. So now I’m stuck with it. I’m no longer friends with him. It was one of my shortest lived friendships. If you can even call it that. =P As I dig for more and more supplies I’ll take pictures of my art area and my art closet. My glasses haven’t arrived yet but I squinted my way through my first mini page well enough. Tomorrow I plan to make a paper cross for my mom.

Old World Name Hanging

Ξ April 4th, 2008 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Art-tastic |

This is a hanging nameplate design I made. The letter tags are tacked to a wooden board that’s been crackle painted. The letters were made in MS Word and printed out and glued to black cardstock. I used foam adhesive to adhere them to tags that I stamped with continents and made them look aged with using a sponge and brown ink from a stamp pad. The continents are colored in by using regular colored pencils. I embellished the tags with small wooden and glass beads on wire to give this more flair. This hanging is no longer in use so I plan to repurpose it by changing the letters around and putting our last name on it and hanging it in our entry. I plan to add memorabilia to the wooden part of this as time goes by.

The update on our Nordic Track: we received 2 left handles so we had to call the company and they are shipping a new right handed handle now. It should reach us by Monday. It rained here today so the seeds I planted got a free feeding. I’m hoping to see some sprouts by early next week.

Here is a shot of a corner in my art studio area, Hoops and YoYo bring my hubby and I much joy, you can see part of a WIP I have going as well. It’s the start of spring picture. I’ll post it when it’s done.

I had my eye appointment on Tuesday and will be able to put the order in for my glasses as soon as the next payday rolls around. So I will be elbow deep in paints again soon. In the meantime I have been watching Youtube videos and putting in some orders online for needed art supplies. When I have my studio area completed I’ll take a picture and post it. Enjoy your weekend and I’ll see you soon.

Poppies

Ξ April 2nd, 2008 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Around The House |

The poppies are looking better today after being transplanted. I took a few pictures of them to share and put us in the Spring mood. Our Nordic Track arrived today and we are assembling it now. It came in dozens of pieces and we’ve been at it for well over 2 hours. It’s almost complete. More art will go up tomorrow as I sift through the last of my supplies to organize. I can’t wait to get my fingers in something besides potting soil.
