Sunset Sands

Ξ August 30th, 2008 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Art-tastic |

Sunset Sands ATC. This was very fun. I simply dabbled glue onto an ATC sized piece of Bristol Board and sprinkled it with some sand my Mom and Sister brought me from the Oregon coast. After it was dry I started layering watercolor pencil wash over it in varying colors of the sunset. When the background was completed I added a rubberstamped/embossed sanddollar on vellum and included the trimming from it on the top right. to add beach grass I used bristols from my broom and topped it off with miniture seashells. The different elements of this ATC make it intriquing and colorful in a peaceful way. I really like it.

ATC Madness

Ξ August 29th, 2008 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Art-tastic |

I’ve made my very first ATCs and what a blast they are. It’s rather an addicting form of art. There are so many elements that you can include on these small surfaces. What I like best is that you can do all kinds of texturing in such a small amount of time and can try new things and not worry about wasting supplies if you muck it up. These are the first three that I have finished. I am also working on three more that I hope to have done sometime this weekend. Let me know what you think. =)

Gooney. This was done with watercolor pencils and a black sharpie marker.

This pansy ATC was made by embossing pansies from a stencil onto paper and using decorative chalks and watercolors for color. I added the rhinestones centers simply because I like bling. The back ground is a watercolor wash.

Made with a paper thin edging of wood, I watercolored several colors of brown over the wood and washed the back with watercolor and a sea sponge. The leaves are cut from art punches and colored with decorative chalks and watercolor pencils.

Happy Labor Day Weekend! The kids will be back to school soon leaving all of you more time for creating! Put on your creative hats!

Alice in Wonderland

Ξ August 28th, 2008 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Art-tastic |

I’m finally done with my challenge piece for Make it Mondays and not a day too soon! This was fun to make. I simply found the Mad Hatter’s hat by doing a google search and drew Alice’s face under it after I had glued it into position on Bristol Board. After I had her face complete I glued the Ace of Hearts to her and cut her out. I will add some string to the hat to hang her from a nearby hook at my desk. I added the flower embellishment to the hat to “girl” it up a bit. She sparkles. =)

I was also asked to draw a giraffe and came up with this clever version using mini square cardstock cards I’ve had in my rubberstamping supplies for years. With a bit of fiber and a rhinestone on his tail He’s the best dressed of the savanna. Meet Gerald the Giraffe!
Today I’m going to try my hand at ATCs. I’ve not done any yet and thought they might be a fun way to try some new techniques I’ve been wanting to try. Plus, since they are so small it will be very easy to work on more than one at a time. If anyone has any pointers for me I’d love some comments! Happy Pre-TGIF (Where did the week go?) and happy creating! God Bless.

Routine – Stop the Madness!

Illustration Friday’s challenge, done for the week! It’s hard to see in this photo but the cup is painted with glitter from the word Madness down. This was an interesting challenge and a few things came to mind that I could try but I went went with the doldrums of day-to-day wifeyness. I also finished today’s art journal entry and actually quite like it. It’s very girly girl! Let me know what you think.

Fun girly stuff with a mini mirror for last minute primping on the go!

Doctor’s Office Doodle Gone WIld.

To pass the time yesterday afternoon at my Doctor’s appointment I brought my sketch pad and pencils. I ended up drawing this “lady – bug.” When I got home I used dry watercolor pencils to fill her in and a blender stump to blend the colors a bit. I cut and pasted her to some grungy scrapbooking paper that my Mom had given me. Rubberstamps, confetti, and other embellishements add a bit of interest to the page. I love her shoes! Leaf clogs! I’ll likely mount this on bristol board with a border for adding a bit of paint to finish it off. But for now I wanted to get this posted and move on to my next mess…. er… masterpiece. =) Before I dive into the next project I must clear the chaos from my desk! I’m up to my armpits in clutter!
At least it’s fun clutter though. After I tackle this disaster area I’ll be working on Illustration Friday’s challenge of the week. Routine. (I am actually over half way done with it, but I had to stop to play with my Lady bug.) And of course I have to do my journal page, gotta love junky art! So therapeutic! Well… time for therapy! Yippee! Have a creative day!

100 Journal Entries on Flickr!

Ξ August 25th, 2008 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Art-tastic |

Quite an accomplishment. I’ve been journaling since late March and have managed to cover 100 surfaces/pages with some form of art or another and I have loved every minute of it. If you get the chance to take a look, please let me know what your favorites are. I have enjoyed seeing my work change and grow as the time has gone by. I look forward to the day when I will be able to expand my studio space to it’s own room and have fun making really big messes on paper. My flicker is here – Enjoy. =) And please critique! The birds below are entry number 100! I got the idea for these fun and funky birds from HERE. She makes the most adorable birdies. The possibilities for birds like this are endless.
My parents were by last week and brought me a gorgeous bouquet of fresh cut flowers from Costco. There were some especially different flowers in the bouquet and I have decided to paint the ones I favored. Here is the first one of the most lovely orange “paintbrush” style flower. I have no idea what kind of flower this is so if you know please leave a comment with the info. I’m still debating if I should do some black outlines on this painting.
I added the ladybug simply because I love ladybugs. God’s creativity in his creations throughout the universe are truly amazing. From things like the Parrotfish to more common things like the Zebra. What a world of inspiration we live in. What inspires you?

I’m looking over new blog themes and have decided on one that has the layout I like. We are planning to customize it and add my art to it and adjust the colors to suit my style. So there will be some changes coming up here soon. One can’t grow without change. Happy Monday and I hope for many blessing upon you all this last week of August!

Musical Mandolin

Ξ August 24th, 2008 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Art-tastic |

Sketch turned watercolor. I cut the painting from the paper and glued it to text pages that I adhered to my journal page. I added music note confetti to add a touch of depth. The mandolin was fun to draw and decorate with flowers inspired from a rubberstamp I saw in a magazine. Just another doodle. =)

Fuzzy Wuzzy

Celebrating all the wonderful Italian Fun Fur fibers I got at The Dollar Tree. I found a scrap of watercolor paper and decided to use it up with this piece. I used hemp for the necklace with glass beads. The headband is a gorgeous ethnic trim I have had in my drawer forever, and the hair is the fun fur. The background is a simple watercolor wash with thinned down glitter glue smeared on with my fingertips. Wild & wacky, yet fun and simple. Share your fiber ideas with me, I’d love to see what you’re making. The weather is sunny yet not too hot. Perfect for hanging out outside with a cool drink. We took a walk last night around the lake downtown. It was so nice out with a cool breeze blowing that we decided to do two laps. What a nice way to work off dinner. I’m working on an art challenge from Step Outside Your Box
This is what I have so far, I am planning to mount it on a decorated box and sent it to my Aunt as a little surprise when I have it completed. Now to dig through all my boxes to find one that it will fit on.. OY! The closet of doom – here I come. =/
This is my very first paper casting and I was amazed at how easy it was. I used decorative chalks to add color to it then used a nice fluffy paint brush to even out and blend the chalks and finished it off with a spray glitter which doesn’t show in the photo. I just might invest in a few basic shapes of molds to add depth to mixed media pieces. This was really very simple. The hard part will be finding a box that it fits onto. Have an Angelic Friday!

Gypsy Rose

Ξ August 21st, 2008 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Art-tastic |

Made for Make it Monday’s challenge this week. This was rather time consuming as you may have guessed. With all the jewelry a gypsy wears it took some time to coordinate her costume. She has bits of gold all over her from her earing to her headdress. I framed her with gold tissue paper and fibers with melted wax and rhinestones. Now she can dance to her hearts content. You go girl!

It’s Good To Be Queen

Ξ August 21st, 2008 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Art-tastic |

Inspired by the checkered rubberstamp in the lower left corner I drew a chess piece and gave her character. This journal entry was a lot of fun. The background is watercolor crayon, gold glitter glue, and text from a novel. I added sticker tape to the right side to help frame her. With pre-made polka dot letters, her stature is unmistakable. She has a rhinestone at the top of her crown to add a bit of depth to the piece. She makes me smile. I hope you find some smiles here too. =)
