Lock N’ Key

Inspire Me Thursday – Opposite. Not having done a collage piece in a while I decided to go with an old fashioned lock and key for the prompt word. This project was extremely quick and easy, and I’m counting it as today’s journal entry as well. I have been busy cleaning and running back to glue papers on between floors drying. Laundry will be ready to fold soon as well. Sigh! I even managed to hem some pants while I was between floors and gluing! Busy Bee today. I’m making homemade pizza for dinner tonight and the dough smells wonderful!! Well, I’m off to finish housework so I have free time this week for the messiness of art. Happy Tuesday!

Ahead of the game

For once I have one of my pieces done and posted before a deadline! Here’s this weeks piece for Illustration Friday – Detach.

As the stress of the daily grind melts away so do the walls that hold us in. Enjoy the breeze of summer while it’s still with us. It will fade away quickly. Detach and release! I did this in all watercolors using Staedtler’s Karat Aquarell.

Here’s a journal page I worked on yesterday as well, I was just playing and enjoying music and cold drinks and a wonderful breeze through our open windows. The heat has subsided and it’s wonderfully cool again.

I’m off now to work out and then work on Inspire Me Thursday’s piece! Happy Monday & have a joyful week!

Sail, Sale, Sail!

I made this for last last week’s Illustration Friday. I had it done in time but was off shopping with my sister and didn’t have time to post it. We went to the Dollar Tree and found some awesome treasures. I found skeins of wonderful fibrous yarns for only $1 so I bought 8 of them. I’m toying with the idea trimming t-shirts with them as well as adding the fibers to my art. They are delicious. I found some sheets of vellum stickers that I couldn’t pass up either. It’s the best place to impulse shop as you don’t feel guilty for spending mere dollars. Friday night hubby and I went to Olive Garden and had a wonderful dinner in a very air conditioned atmosphere, after we strolled the mall and window shopped some. We came home after it had cooled off. It’s been hot this week to the point of unbearable. It was 88 in our house yesterday afternoon. I spent part of that time in a cold bathtub. It was bliss. It’s hot again today so I’m going to make a cold fruit salad of cantaloupe and blueberries with a yogurt dressing for a nice chilled treat. I plan to doodle and journal today in front of the two fans we keep by the desks, so I might post a creation later today. Until then! Keep COOL and God Bless.

Inspire Me Thursday

Inspire me Thursday’s word for the week is wardrobe. This is what I came up with. Clothes cut from stenciled paper doll clothes, gesso’d and watercolor washed in assorted colors. I embellished them with ribbons, brads, yarns, fabrics, charms, eyelets, jute, dollar store fingernail stickers and buttons, and even the edging off an old towel. Truly quite fun and this was actually a rather simple project as I took the creative license to use stencils instead of drawing the clothes freehand. They are tossed in an sketched out suitcase. I think we’re ready for vacation!

Butterflies and Octopies!

Ξ August 14th, 2008 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Art-tastic |

It’s HOT! I’d like to be under the sea in an octopus’s garden in the shade (chillin). I got the idea for an octopus from mindlessly surfing artists blogs. I saw a lot of them and when it got hot out I thought why not join them and be cool in the ocean waters. One can dream! It’s going to be hotter tomorrow too and I’m not looking forward to it. =/ I’m looking forward to cool fall mornings. Inspiration!

I did this butterfly entry yesterday. I put zero thought into what I was doing when I started. I just used up left over paint that I had on my palette. It turned into a fiber piece with butterflies strewn about. My Shasta Daisies attract butterflies so I am blessed to see them often.

It was liberating to make this messy piece. When I have more room I plan to make bigger messes!

Journal Pages

Ξ August 12th, 2008 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Around The House, Art-tastic, The Healing Garden |

I have been a bit lax in posting a few of my journal pages that I just threw together really fast. The past few days and the one from our 1-year anniversary. So here they are in all their glory. Heh!

While putting clean sheets on the bed late yesterday afternoon I found this mattress tag sticking it’s tongue out at me from under the bed. I bet he’s sorry he did that now. His lips are now sealed with my glue stick! We’ve both been having trouble sleeping lately so this page only made sense! Just an FYI, we both slept wonderfully last night. =)

This simple page was to make use of the leftover punch cut flowers I made to go with my window box picture. The background is rubberstamped and the flowers are glued with watercolor stems. Simple and sweet.

I call this kitchen sink. I have been saving labels and wrappers and stickers and “the kitchen sink” to make into a journal page. You get a peek at what we eat and where we shop, see the Fred Meyer rewards card sticking out? From Banana’s to Beef – most of this is healthy, I promise! =)

I sketched this simple drawing day after our anniversary. We went out to Red Lobster and had a wonderful meal and a few glasses of lovely Merlot. (one of our faves.) That catches me up on my absent journal pages. Yay! Sunday evening we were sitting on our back deck and my hubby looked up at the clouds, ran in for the camera and snapped this “Stairway to Heaven” cloud shot. Amazing! His Mercy and Grace are new everyday! Praise!!

Pine Cones, Holly Berries, & Window Boxes

Window Box

Layers of leaves, watercolored flowers, watering can, and a bright sunny face to greet the day. This is one of my scrap bristol board pieces that I’ve been playing with. Her dress is collage paper, with fibers around the neck and a heart brad on her as jewelry. She’s got ribbons in her hair and a twinkle in her eye. This was fun to make. I really like her sense of fashion! I must find her designer. =)

It’s August and Mother Nature is already preparing us with Pine Cones and Holly Berries for Christmas. Just a few steps off our back deck I discovered these lovely berries.

The squirrels have been high up in the Pine trees shaking down the green cones and I found this one in my zucchini planter and gave it a new home.

While I was out photographing I had a visitor sneak up behind me to see if I brought treats. We’ve named her Widget.

Hopefully I will be able to capture her 3 wee ones on film soon to share the cuteness. They are adorable.
All this wildlife right in the middle of town! The best of both worlds. I got 2 new art magazines at Barnes and Noble yesterday and one magazine suggests an nature walk for collection natures objects de art. I am going to do that this coming week and make a journal page with what I’ve found. My neighborhood is great for it. I’ll bring along the camera and take a few pictures as I go to share with you. It’s the perfect time of year for gathering natures leftovers.

Rain Rain! Time for Art!

Ξ August 10th, 2008 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Around The House, The Healing Garden |

It’s raining, it’s pouring, my creativity is soaring. What a wonderful reason to stay snug behind my desk cuddled in throw blanket with paint on my fingertips! Get your crayons out! It’s pouring buckets out there.

Tropical Love

Tropics

It’s been tropically hot this week, so to bring that forward through my art I’ve gone Mexican! My girl is done with bristol board scraps (perfect for a quick evening painting.) and embellished with fibers and flowers. She’s glued to a a painted journal page washed with two hues of blue and finished with the cool shade of forestation. I really like how this one turned out. I’m off now to do my Nordic Track work out and then work on a small piece I’m doing called “Window Box.” I’ll have that one done soon and put it up for you to see. Stay as cool as you can! Think – ICED TEA! =)

Playing With New Supplies

Ξ August 5th, 2008 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Art-tastic |

Kids at Play

This was just a goofy sketch that made it into my art journal of kids at summer play. I give them googly eyes for fun. It’s just a simple watercolor with gel pens dressing the kids up. Silliness at it’s “finest?”

Taj Mahal

This was a challenge working with Twinkling H2Os and Metallic Gel Pens. I killed a few pens with Gesso damage. If anyone knows how to prevent or cure that please let me know. This was fun to do as I got to mix some embellishments into the girl for added pizzaz. (I LOVE embellishments and they are one of my weaknesses while shopping.) I think she turned out rather sweet.

Pretty in Pink

This was done with my new pencils. I got to play with some new colors and had a blast. I was working in very poor lighting but all things considered she’s still pretty happy to have a new colored pink dress and some lovely flowers to pick. These are all journal entries and I will be working on a few larger pieces this week now that I have received all my wonderful supplies. If I don’t come up for air …. send help! or food! =) Happy Monday and Happy August, catch some sun while it’s still Summer!
