I spent last evening working on this little painting. I call it Raining Roses. I simply randomly stamped acrylic paint on watercolor paper with a flower rubberstamp. I did the same with leaves and acrylic gold metallic paint. I used watercolors and gel pens to add to the depth of them. Then I added doodle dots and a little gel pen for a stem. the back is faintly washed with blue watercolor. She not very Halloweenish, but she’s cute nonetheless.
I’ve been busy working on several pieces and getting ready for Halloween. I did this journal entry as a Halloween challenge for Make it Mondays. It’s rather Day of the Deadish with the amount of skellies in it. I call it Skelly Mosh Pit. The little guys look to be marionettes. It was fun to create. I simply made a skelly head template to trace and did all the black in sharpies, the rest is watercolor penciled and then washed over with a waterbrush.

My Frida picture is coming along great and I’ll be posting her when she’s done. I plan to upload her to photoshop when she’s half done to play w/her there as well. I’ve not done that before w/my own work. So it will be interesting to see what I can do digitally to her. Most of the time I prefer the dirty fingers style of art, but I wanted to try a few things with Frida without making them permanent to the origional piece. I need to get myself some workable fixative soon as I work in soft lead and tend to smear a lot. I’ll be ordering or heading to JoAnns in the next few days. I checked Google to see if hairspray would work as a workable fixative but most ppl say Nay! It will yellow within a few days to a few months. This little guy just flew into our window. Our living room has a wall of windows overlooking a gully of trees. We have lots of racoon, squirrels, birds, deer and an occasional unwanted possum venturing around. He made a big thump when he hit the window so I went to check on him. He’s doing much better now so I tossed him a slice of bread to soothe his wounds (and his ego.) He’ll be fine. I think I’m more rattled than he is.

I lost my bird book when I moved so if anyone can identify this little guy please let me know. I adore his coloring.
Check out the wonderful give-away contest for some absolutely wonderful eyelets! – Look at all the pretty artsy bling!
Head on over and entry! And Good Luck to us all. -)
I haven’t done an art journal entry in a while and though it was about time I did one. This is what I “doodled” out. I used a gold glaze over a lot of the flowers and notes, and her pupils. The background is sea-sponged with blue rubberstamping ink. I used a gold Zig Painty Metallic pen for some of the outlines and the trumpet. I used a lot of purple as it is considered a royal color. And the music notes represent when the trumpet sounds. Check out this video for where I got the idea for this journal entry.
I’m working on my first Frida Kahlo picture now so I’m off to do my “doodles.” See you back here again tomorrow. =)
Playing with modeling paste again. It’s rather addictive. Just wanted to share the shelter. This makes me think of the cleft in the rock that God tucks us in to protect us from life’s dangers. Exodus 33:21-22.
A bit blurry at the top due to the embellishings via scanner.
Have a happy weekend. I’m off to go shopping soon. =)~~…And wine and cheese are on the shopping list for tonight!
This wacky little character came to my imagination yesterday. I mixed modeling paste and gel medium and spread it over a stencil to create the flower- removed the stencil & let it dry overnight and made this whimsical bird with a sponged and stamped background. He’s kinda funky with his curly feathered hair and fuzzy flower tummy. He has a yummy tummy – hence – birdy num num!

I took the plunge and ordered metallic powders Jerry’s Artarama, I found them through someone in my Les Petite Dolls class. What a bargin. I got them for 20% off, so I ordered the biggest set. arent’ they pretty! I ordered the 32 jar set along with some imitation gold and copper leaf. I’ll get the silver next time around. I was happy with the prices at Jerry’s.
Give them a look and be sure to check out their free art lesson videos. Very neat stuff! My iridescent medium arrives today via Fedex and I’m really excited about using it. I’ll experiment by making a journal page, it’s been a while since I’ve made time for one, and it’s very overdue. =) Well, I’m off to play in paint. I’ll be back when I have something to show for it. =) HAPPY TGIF!
I’ve been very busy today working on two paintings and getting ready to add another to the mix. The pink one is going to have the words “I do” stamped across the bottom of the dress. I used modeling paste for the flower and have to say it’s the funnest thing EVER! So many possibilities. The dress fades from pink at the top to ivory at the bottom, the camera doesn’t pick it up too much and I took the picture late in the day so sunlight was on the opposite side of the deck. I’m not sure yet which colors I’m adding to this. I know I need to put some brown in it though. The picture is a bit fuzzy, but you get the idea. I still need to choose an eye color as well.
This is my first “large” piece on wood. It’s 12×24 inches and more challenging to work on. The smaller pieces have limited me in my background experiments. It’s going to take me a bit of time to get the hang of such a large canvas. The skirt will be glazed with a semi matching yellow and trimmed up a bit with some green to represent a flower. Ironically enough my DH and I watched Bee Movie last night. It was a riot! I LOVED it! If you haven’t seen it I highly recommend it.
I’m thinking I will use the same modeling paste/stencil technique for this with a darling bee stencil I have. I have a few ideas for some flowers as well. This will be a lot of fun and a nice challenge for me. Last but not least- while watching movies last night I doodled this little toad. I call him “Tippy Toad.” Kind of a messy doodle but when my DH saw what I was working on he cracked up.
Silliness! Thanks for hoppin’ by!
This little guy was chillin on the floor the other morning so I captured him in a glass and set him out on the back deck. I expected him to hop away but when I came back an hour later he was still soaking in the sun. With cold weather setting in for the season I expect it could have been his last sun bath. Just thought I’d share him. I don’t have any new art today but I did get my birch wood over the weekend. I’ll be back at it tomorrow with something new and messy to share. I also got my modeling paste I ordered and am really looking forward to trying it. They forgot to include my other 2 items I ordered in my shipment but I called them and they assured me that they were shipped today. It was rather disappointing, but at least I have the package to look forward to. I expect it to arrive on Friday! Two weeks till Halloween. I’ll be buying candy for the cuties this weekend and putting it under lock and key to keep the temped at bay!
Until tomorrow! Let them eat cake! =) Mmm! – Cake..
Doodling away last night in front of the TV ended up with a pumpkin on my page. With Halloween around the corner I have witches, bats, and all things spooky on my mind. The colors for Halloween are so abstractly bold and exciting that one can’t help but love the holiday! I think costume shopping will be upcoming next weekend. They are very inspiring for all the things you can draw and the variety of choices. I had originally thought Little Red Riding Hood, but who knows at this point. We’ll see what strikes my fancy next weekend. In the meantime I’ll be pumpkin head!
Happy Friday Bloggers! Celebrate with a cold drink – or a hot one if it’s cold in your neck of the woods!
This could be addictive! From holiday wear to interchangeable hair! Costumes for Balls and Halloween! Add buttons, brads, more glitter, laces for the shoes.. the possibilties are endless. The fun furs are awesome for scarves. Just cut a length and tie it around the neck in whichever fashion pleases you. More than likely I’ll make her a halloween costume and post here later this month. Hmm.. should she be a witch or a fairy or…. any suggestions!? Go crazy with this. These dresses were made with Glitter Stacks paper from JoAnn’s. The stuff is so gorgeous that it really is art in itself. So bright and glitterfilled. I’m hooked on it. (but I can’t think of an art supply that I’m not hooked on.) Pretty borders along the bottom of the dress will be next, and maybe some buttons down the front. I need to buy some “Barbie” sized buttons in a rainbow of colors! Ooohh! Imagination run wild! Tomorrow’s Friday! What’s on your plate this weekend?!
