Congratulations Lisa, you won the drawing for the rubberstamp set. Email me your address and I’ll get it off and running to you this week. =) Thank you Barb, and Lisa for entering the drawing. At least I know I have 2 readers. =P With the holiday and having a hubby who’s been under the weather this past week things have been slow in the art world for me. I did manage to get a few coaster projects done yesterday however. I was itching to get back to creating and this was the perfect thing to do between chores. The Noel is made using round chipboard coasters I bought on sale for 50 cents at Michaels. I gesso’d them and painted them white, using a rubberstamp pad in cornflower blue I sponged the edges and stamped the large snowflakes. I ever so lightly added a bit more sponging around the edges with a bit darker blue and stamped the small flakes on with this color as well. I punched snowflakes from textured gold foil paper to add sparkel. I used gold cardstock for the back layer of the letter, the letters are made from checkered letters I had that embossed with gold. I glued the coasters onto some gold ribbon and added some metallic embroidery threads to create the hanger, as well as a patina’d button to cover the staple I used to fold over the ribbon. I hung it in my entryway to welcome Christmas in.

My other coaster project was made from recycling household items. I had some chipboard coasters from the last time I was at Outback Steakhouse, I covered the outsides with collage papers and embellishments from a scrapbooking kit my Mom gave me. I mod-podges the goodies on and topped the journal off with a rubbing of mica powders in a green color. With a a bit of varnish it’s ready to toss in a purse or messenger bag and carry with you. The pages are made using a paperbag from the grocery store. I cut them with my papercutter and rounded the corners with my corner punch. The insides of the cover are covered with text pages. I used binding rings to fasten it all together so pages can be added later. These two coaster projects were super cheap to make and theraputic ~ I got the fulfillment of the creative process with small projects and was able to do my wifey duties between cutting and painting. Easy~Peasy! The mini journal would make a great stocking stuffer for a journaling friend.
