Calendar Creations for Christmas!

Ξ December 13th, 2008 | → 3 Comments | ∇ Around The House, Art-tastic |

These are mini calendars I’ve made for some of the ladies my DH works with. I think he’s picking 2 of them and I get to either sell or gift the ones that are left. Fun to make. Next year when I make these I will use the computer for the calendar pages as it took many, many stampings to stamp out a year’s worth of dates 4 times! I used fun fur on all but the pink one as hangers. I got funky with the pink one and used pink wire with beads strung on it.  I started a kitty painting for my sister’s mother-in-law. Her husband died this year so she’s been adopted by our whole family. She loves cats and she loves purple so I’m making her a whimsical purple kitty! It’s half way done at the moment and I’ll finish it up over the weekend. I’d love to hear about what everyone else is making for Christmas and how you have your tree’s decorated.  What are some of your favorite stocking-stuffers to give? Leave some comments to share your Christmas ideas! =) Happy Creating.

Little Children

My nieces are finally crossed off my Christmas list. This is the final “Niece Piece” if you will. She’s made for my niece who has three small, wonderful children!. She has always loved children so naturally when I think of her I think of babies and toddlers and such. I emailed my brother to ask her favorite colors and they were purple and black. Knowing I was painting a guardian angel for her & her babies, I decided on black hair and a purple dress. The wings are made from the wrapper of Ferrero Rocher Chocolates. (No I didn’t break my diet for them, I have them stashed in my OMG those are very cool pile!) With a base of watercolor wash of purple ~ I stamped swirly patterns with purple ink then used tissue papers in teal and purple to add interest and layering. I used gold paint to stamp mini swirls and added touches of teal watercolor to make the tissue paper and paint cohesive. The gold flowers are rub-ons from my bling stash and the cross is a charm that I cut the hanger from. The text is digital and painted with watercolor and stamped as well. This close up shows all the detail except for the rhinestone I added to her right eyelid where the wood-burner got too hot. =P Careful of those things! ~~ They could poke an eye out! I’m now working on finishing my guitar painting and have added an antique wash to it to tone the brightness down a bit. I started an angel/cupid which I am going to give a Valentine theme to and I am playing with a chipboard coaster and vintage paperdoll clothing. I plan to try a collage with them. I still need to address my Christmas cards and buy postage! I wanted to make my cards this year but my plate started to overflow. Next year I’ll make my cards in July! (We’ll see about that!)

Tiny. Tiny. Christmas Tree

Ξ December 9th, 2008 | → 5 Comments | ∇ Around The House, Art-tastic |

The photo’s a bit blurry or it’s had a bit of Christmas cheer, either way ~ this is my teensy-tiny Christmas tree. With limited space for anything in the past half dozen years this is what I’ve found to be the best solution, tiny tree and tiny ornaments take up a tiny amount of space. The hearth is fully decked out in Holiday attire and ready for Santa’s visit!

The artist is tucked away in the corner at her desk preparing painting for her loved ones. The stockings are hung, the garland is strung, the nativity is ready for the birth of Christ. Come let us adore him! Tomorrow I’ll have a new painting to post. I just needs it’s hanger and it’s varnish and it’s done! =)

On the Easel ~

Here’s my current project. It’s another Christmas present. This time for a male! The guitar on the left is modeling paste with tissue paper mod-podged onto it. I haven’t decided  yet if I’m going to keep it bright or mute it with a wash. The guitar on the right is the cardboard cut out from make the stencil. I covered it with vintage sheet music and did a background wash in several colors of blue muting the tones as I went. This piece is called “Here Comes The Sun” after the Beatles hit. The recipient of this is a fan ~ and I plan to add the title near the top. I’ll be adding confetti music notes and more bright tissue paper to see if I like it with bright colors. If it turns out too bright I’ll mute it down a little at a time. Rather a challenging piece as it’s quite different from what I normally do. Maybe I’ll toss in a guitar pick in as well, I will toy with it as I start another piece. When I get stuck I usually move on to another painting until the one that has me stuck speaks to me.

Christmas movies are on my Netflix list this week. I found quite a few and added them to the queue. If you can reccommend any good ones leave a comment for me. I’m doing my best to pump myself with Christmas spirit! I’m trimming the tree today and finishing up the rest of the Christmas decorations and will take some photo’s when the place is all decked out! =) Happy Creating and keep the spirit!

Copper Penny

I call her Copper Penny as her wings and flower in her hair are copper. Also there is copper leafing trailing on her wings. This was pure joy to make. I love the entire process. She’s very mixed media from crayon to tissue paper to embellishments ~ including the 3D leaf on the bottom right. There are a few rhinestones tossed in for bling. What fairy doesn’t like bling!? Her dress is actually made from texured collage paper keeping the squirly theme on the background. There’s sparkle and smudges and drips and layers of lovely goodness! I am starting the guitar painting today and I know I’m going to have the best time with it. I’m not sure yet what I’ll do with Copper Penny. She’s the first painting on wood I’ve done that isn’t a Christmas gift. Maybe I’ll look into prints. Depends on what kind of feedback I get on her. I’m outta here now to crank up the music while I paint guitars! =)  Merry Creating!

Oh the things I can’t post!

Ξ December 3rd, 2008 | → 1 Comments | ∇ Around The House |

With Christmas around the corner I can’t post some of my treasures as they are intended for a few family members who read my blog. Although today’s painting isn’t intented for anyone at the moment I am having a wonderful time with it and think I may name it Copper Penny! She’s so close to being done. I’ll have her up this tomorrow. Next I plan to make a guitar/modeling paste/sheet music collage for my son’s father. He and my son are very into listening to music so I thought it would be a nice gesture for him. I need to either buy or make a guitar stencil and find some sheet music of GOOD DAY SUNSHINE~ It was so nice to get back to creating after the week+ of having my hubby not feeling well. I have so many creative ideas I’ve read about during this time that I have a big to-do list for 2009! In 09 I plan to try to market my work locally as I think the Internet might be saturated with art and Etsy is an endless sight to search through. I also want to meet some local artist to share ideas with. I may try to sell from my sight however. I’ll discuss it with some marketing friends of mine to get their input.  I have been getting my jingle on today and have almost completed my Christmas decorations. I have the tree to do yet as the lights don’t work =/. Lights are a true test of my patience! We have a VERY TINY fake tree as we have absolutely no room for one at the moment. Hubby has a big screen and I do mean BIG! OY! I did get some painting into today but only a tiny bit. Tomorrow however! HAH! I’ll be up to my elbows in paint. Heaven! I will also post my decortions tomorrow as well, since it’s now dark out and the flash just doesn’t bring the color to life. Until tomorrow my web friends!

And the winner is….

Congratulations Lisa, you won the drawing for the rubberstamp set. Email me your address and I’ll get it off and running to you this week. =) Thank you Barb, and Lisa for entering the drawing. At least I know I have 2 readers. =P With the holiday and having a hubby who’s been under the weather this past week things have been slow in the art world for me. I did manage to get a few coaster projects done yesterday however. I was itching to get back to creating and this was the perfect thing to do between chores. The Noel is made using round chipboard coasters I bought on sale for 50 cents at Michaels. I gesso’d them and painted them white, using a rubberstamp pad in cornflower blue I sponged the edges and stamped the large snowflakes. I ever so lightly added a bit more sponging around the edges with a bit darker blue and stamped the small flakes on with this color as well. I punched snowflakes from textured gold foil paper to add sparkel. I used gold cardstock for the back layer of the letter, the letters are made from checkered letters I had that embossed with gold. I glued the coasters onto some gold ribbon and added some metallic embroidery threads to create the hanger, as well as a patina’d button to cover the staple I used to fold over the ribbon. I hung it in my entryway to welcome Christmas in.

My other coaster project was made from recycling household items. I had some chipboard coasters from the last time I was at Outback Steakhouse, I covered the outsides with collage papers and embellishments from a scrapbooking kit my Mom gave me. I mod-podges the goodies on and topped the journal off with a rubbing of mica powders in a green color. With a a bit of varnish it’s ready to toss in a purse or messenger bag and carry with you. The pages are made using a paperbag from the grocery store. I cut them with my papercutter and rounded the corners with my corner punch. The insides of the cover are covered with text pages. I used binding rings to fasten it all together so pages can be added later. These two coaster projects were super cheap to make and theraputic ~ I got the fulfillment of the creative process with small projects and was able to do my wifey duties between cutting and painting. Easy~Peasy! The mini journal would make a great stocking stuffer for a journaling friend.
