Merlot Maid

Hi Everyone! It’s been a few days (or more) since I’ve posted. I’ve been busy working on this painting. The collage papers I chose for the fin had me pulling my hair out. Trying different colors to blend them all together nicely. I finally decided to just finish up what I had origionally started with. I haven’t forgotten to spread the blog award love though. I’ll have my choices posted before the end of the week. =) I have another painted going already and another in my head that will be put on to wood this evening. We spent the weekend playing video games. Most of you probably don’t know that I used to be a guild leader in a raiding guild in World of Warcraft. It’s a time sink! I had zero time for myself and my art was non-existant. We stopped playing in early spring of 08. DH and I decided for kicks to play the free 10-day trial for Wrath of the Lich King – the 2nd expansion to WoW. We liked it and decided to play the game casually this time around. So we spend the better part of the weekend in Northrend and on the sofa’s watching movies. Gotta love Netflix! =) Housework is calling me so I’ll go for now but keep checking back to see who’s getting blog love this week, and to see what’s new in the World of Tammy’s-Studio! =)

Busy as a Bee ~ And presenting my blog awards!

Ξ January 14th, 2009 | → 2 Comments | ∇ Art-tastic, Uncategorized |

I’ve been so busy working diligently on two paintings at once. My mermaid painting is almost complete, I hit a wall on what I want to do to finish off her background and the colors I chose are pretty unique in themselves to it’s making the task a bit more challenging than I had first thought. I hope to have her completed by Friday and posted here for you to see. She’s a little sweetheart with a love for the fermented grape. =) The other painting I’m working on is very wood-burned intensive. I know that that one is going to turn out fabulous. I smile every time I look at it. I need a way to organize my embellishments so they are categorized and in one place so that I can find what I’m looking for in a snap. I have very limited space for now and keep buying stacking storage drawers to keep my supplies in. The only place I have to grow is UP ~(I don’t wanna grow up..I’m a Toys R Us Kid!) and I’m only 5’1″ so I’ll need a step ladder soon to reach some of my supplies. Hmm.. I wonder if stilts would help! Hehe

Here are the two awards I received for my blog from Lisa at Simple Journeys. I will be spreading the love of these treasures among the talents bloggers that I’ve been running across over the last year soon. For now I wanted to share with you how special these wonders are.

This award states:

“This
blog invests and believes the proximity – nearness in space, time, and
relationships! These blogs are exceedingly charming. These kind bloggers
aim to find and be friends. They are not interested in prizes or
self-aggrandizement. Our hope is that when the ribbons of the prizes
are cut, even more friendships are propagated. Please give more
attention to these writers! Deliver this award to eight bloggers, who must choose eight more and include this cleverly written text into the body of their award.”

The other blog reward is …

I believe the beautiful badge speaks for itself.

Here are the rules:

Link to the person who gave you the award.

Pass it on to deserving recipients of your own.

These are my very first blog award and I’m hoping that by sharing them with you you’ll feel inspired to post here so that I can visit your blogs and share the love of the awards with you all. I have very few people who add comments to my entries here and I would really love to get to know my readers. We are all in this together! Lets share the creative juices and grow as a community and friends! God Bless and I hope to read posts from you all very soon.

Free Indeed

Ξ January 12th, 2009 | → 2 Comments | ∇ Art-tastic, For The Kingdom, The Healing Garden |

This painting was inspired by something wonderful I saw on the evening news around the time of Christmas. An angel was recorded on a hospital’s surveillance camera at the nurse’s station. The mother of the girl that the angel came to heal was at the nurse’s station at the time of the angel’s visit and was able to capture it’s appearance on her cell phone camera. She shared her miracle with the world via the news media. I based the this painting on John 8:36

I used acrylics, watercolors, inks, and pastel chalks for the background and foreground. I collaged with tissue papers, collage papers and printed text. I used rubberstamps, stencils, modeling paste, ribbons, and iridescent mediums. The dress has a pocket near the bottom which I will use for adding some white feathers to. (As soon as I get some!) The halo is crackle painted and has a wash of metallic blue in the creases.

Lisa awarded me with TWO! blog awards which I will be sharing with you this week. She does some wonderfully inspiring work ~ Be sure to check her out at Simple Journeys.

I’m working on two new pieces that I just got done woodburning today. I’ll share more about them when there is more to share. =) Until then…. Happy Creating!

Draw Back Your Bow

Ξ January 7th, 2009 | → 2 Comments | ∇ Art-tastic |

With Valentines Day just around the corner I was inspired to celebrate it a bit early by painting this sweet little cupid. She’s ready and waiting to draw back her bow and let go of her first arrow of the year. Love is the greatest gift of all! For this painting I did a red wash on the background letting the grain of the wood show through. I used pink with glaze added to allow the red to show through and to help soften the painting. Red and pink hearts are stamped around the background using acrylic paints. Tissue paper was added as well, the collaged paper across the top is actually a Christmas Kleenex. I added brads which I removed the backs of, a wooden button painted pink with iridescents, painted jute for the string on the bow, and the arrow tip is a metal heart sticker. The bow is painted with texture medium and glossed over with black acrylic paint. The painting was topped with a light spackling of white acrylic paint that was thinned down with water. This was FUN! I really enjoyed the process of this whole painting and have started another one that is titled “Free Indeed.” I can’t wait to finish it so I can show you. I’m off to paint! Happy creating!

Happy Hen Series

Ξ January 5th, 2009 | → 5 Comments | ∇ Art-tastic |

Here’s my latest endeavor. A trio of happy hens. These whimsical chickies are done on watercolor paper and cut and adhered to mini 5×7 canvases which are painted with flowery backgrounds. The flowers are done with watercolor pencils and iridescent medium. They shimmer and shine. They are outlined with a waterproof an unltra-fine-point black ink pen.

I’m waiting for the beeswax to melt at the moment and when it’s ready I’ll be topping these hens off with the smell of fresh honey! =) Here’s a closer look at each chicky!

Thanks for dropping by for the latest chicken feed!

Cross Your Heart

Ξ January 2nd, 2009 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Art-tastic, For The Kingdom |

Fourth and final in my mixed media collage canvas series. This one’s titled Cross Your Heart. This starts with lots of layers on the background, similair to Pretty In Pink. I used mulberry paper as a background for the collage paper and a LoVe run-on. The heart is cut from cardboard and layered with more collage paper. I used an awl to prepunch holes for sewing with to make the task easier. Using metallic gold embroidery thread I blanket stitched around the heart and at th bottom I wrapped threads around and use tacky glue to set them. Using the trimming for my sewing I added a layer of golden threads to anchor the piece. I topped off the upper corners with gold leafing and beeswaxed and buffed the painting. All that’s left is to add the hangers. I’m going to be doing a series of three now on 5×7 canvases with a whimsical bird theme. I’m also working on a Les Petite Dolls painting for Valentines. What’s on your easel!?
