Punk Walk

I had so much fun with this painting! I honestly don’t know what inspired this idea. As I’ve mentioned before I usually have my sketch book with me in the evenings when DH and I are cuddled on the couches watching movies. My guess is that somewhere along the way I must have seen a punk rocker. So Punk Walk was born. The beads in the hair are such a  fun touch! They are “Fashion Beadz ~ Self Adhesive Beads for Fabric” My mom gave me a half-a-dozen jars of these and I’ve been wanting to use them in my paintings and finally found the perfect use. I took a brave pill and am going to be going to the dentist early on Thursday ~ I have an abnormal fear of the dentist so you may have guessed I really need to see him. =/ Wonder if he’ll let me bring my security blanky!? In the meantime I’m going back to my desk and working on my almost finished 5×6 mermaid. I’ll have her up tomorrow. I’m on a roll! =)

Dare To Dream

Ξ March 30th, 2009 | → 1 Comments | ∇ Art-tastic, For The Kingdom, The Healing Garden |

This is my first finished class assigment for Willowing’s World of Whimsy class. I finished it today after spending time watching her 1st background video. I have more than several paintings going on my desk right now and will be scanning the one’s I’ve done on paper and getting them ready to sell as prints on Etsy. I’ll give a shout out when I have them in my Etsy shop along with my link. =) After being out of touch from being sick my DH told me Friday when he saw my Twilight Frida that I have indeed gotten my Mojo back. YAY! I’ll have my Punk painting done tomorrow and post it here for you. I need to get on the varnishing and mounting of my larger pieces so I can add them to my shop at a later date. I’ll be making an “Art for Sale” page soon and have some of my work added to it before the end of April. So much to do, so little time! The days speed by so fast when one’s hands are covered with paint!

Internet Theft

Ξ March 28th, 2009 | → 1 Comments | ∇ Uncategorized |

Sadly this day has finally come. There is a sight off-shore from the United States that is stealing art from websites with the focus being Flickr. I am a huge Flicker fan and have been uploading for over a year. Their theft has been focused on Blythe doll type art. Girls with large eyes and the like. I am sorry to say that I will now have to watermark my uploads and put my copyright mark on them. This has been a reoccurring complaint in my Flickr groups. I have not had any art stolen yet to my knowledge, yet to avoid the problem I am forced to apply the precautions. I still love the internet and all the possibilities it brings to me daily. At the same time I hate the preditors that crawl around looking for a soul to steal. I’m thankful for my faith in times like this. I choose to look at the good side of this and create a watermark that will enhance who I am. =)  Now it’s time to dream up a really pretty watermark. BBL on Monday with something wonderful. =)

Twilight Frida

Ξ March 27th, 2009 | → 1 Comments | ∇ Art-tastic, Les Petite Dolls |

Between coats of varish I took time to snap this picture of my latest. I just finished Twilight Frida today. Lots of layers of acrylics, stamps, gold leafing, stencils, confetti, and stars. The photo makes her face look grainer than it actually is for some reason but I guess it adds character. This is done on a 5×6 wooden canvas with the edges painted black. I’ve given her some eyeshadow and twinkling copper eyes. The gold paint is DecoArt’s Elegant Finish Metallic Paint which I love! It’s extremely versitile and comes in 7 different shimmering colors. It’s been a long week for us here so we plan a relaxing weekend! What are you plans for the last weekend before April?

Momma Mia

Netflix has been a Godsend for us here. I keep finding gems on Netflix as well as Hulu that help me unwind and escape. This past Sunday I spend the day enjoying some of the finds that I run across while doing my bi-weekly Netflix movie picking. I don’t often promote a movie but this one made me laugh, and cry and laugh, and laugh! Starring Meryl Streep and Pierce Brosnon and seeing them burst into song was both heartwarming and hilarious. If you’re looking for a good love story with a twist Momma Mia is a must see!

In The Wind

Painting on smaller canvases. I had my dad cut up some smaller pieces of Birch for me so I could attempt doing mini paintings along side of my larger ones. This was a fun challenge to downsize after learning so hard to make images that are approx. 9×11. These mini’s are just over a hair over 5×6 so they are perfect for a small table easel or a grouping. Now I need to buy some hangers for them. =) I’m still working on side pieces for my class at Willowing and look forward to our next coming class this Saturday! It feels good to be back at the easel after such a long bout with the flu. I’m still rather weak and wondering if sinus infection might be to blame.. grr! More OJ for me! I’ll be back here tomorrow. Happy Painting.

Eve

Eve in the garden of Eden. I did a lot of woodburning on Eve and the garden portion of this piece. The hanging vines and leaves are all woodburned and the leaves have texturing paste painted on them topped with several colors of green and twinkling H2Os in Irish Mist. The flowers are stamped, collaged, and painting on. I did the majority of this painting while I was sick and leaning over my desk. At first I didn’t like the painting at all but as I started to feel better and get ideas for it I started to feel the creative process take over and it grew on me. =) I’ve a few little things to touch up before she’s varnished but I couldn’t wait to share! What’s on your easel today?

Class Homework

Ξ March 16th, 2009 | → 1 Comments | ∇ Art-tastic |

New class and new styles. This is my homework assignment this week for Tam’s class at Willowing’s World of Whimsey class. Saturday we’ll get our next assignment for working on the background. Fun! I’m going to play with more of her techniques this week while I anxiously await Saturday’s video! This is done on watercolor paper using watercolor crayons/pencils/and white acrylic paint. It’s fun to learn different techniques and styles. I’m almost done with my Eve painting and will likely post that tomorrow. Next I’ll be working on 2 different angel paintings that have been brewing in the back of my head. The flu is slowly leaving the house and we are mostly dragging with coughs and low stamina. I feel a bit better than I did before the weekend, but feel like I could truly sleep for a week. =/ Not enough gets done when one is feeling blah! Spring is on it’s way in however, so the flowers will perk us all up! Until tomorrow! HUGS!

Yar Matey!

For the most part I’ve completed my pirate. All I need to do now is touch up her hair, varnish her, and add some rhinestones gems to the booty she’s standing on. I had so much fun with her I’ll probably paint another one in the future.

There are a ton of differnt mediums used for this painting which made it so much fun. I got to get my fingers sticky with Beedz, Gold Leafing, rubberstamps, inks, gel pens, paints, ~ both acrylic and watercolor ~ embossing powder, modeling paste, glass bead gel medium, mica poweders, sponging, puffy glittering fabric paint and collaging papers. The list is endless, which is why mixed media painting so much fun. The amount of different things you can find for adding to painting are endless and it’s fun to stretch yourself and challenge yourself to explore as many as you can find! (And to dream up your own.) ~ The flu is still hanging on, but the threads of it get a wee bit weaker by the day. Lots of rest and OJ, Ricola, and Nyquil, and sadly still, lots of coughing. I’ve started on my Eve painting and am looking forward to adding layers to it today. I hope to be more frequent with my posting this week since the flu is on the way out the door, even if I have to kick it out with my high “heals…”
