… Blushing …

My dear and talented friend Darlene Pringle at A Dancing Mango awarded me with this wonderful suprise. If you’ve not been to her blog I highly recommend it. She’s truly talented, one of the sweetest people I’ve run across online and share my Christian values with. A fantastic trio to say the very least. I met Darlene through my class at Willowing and within just a few email I knew we had a lot in common. I know if we lived close by we would be very good friends. Thankfully with the internet we don’t need to have friends within driving distance to be able to share our deepest thoughts and desires with. Sharing ideas and even movies with Darlene opened a door for us that would not have been there if we had not been blessed with the internet. Thank you Darlene for thinking of me. I look forward to sharing more art … and movies with you as our friendship blossoms.

I spend the day with my dearest and closest friend who moved back to Washington only weeks ago. Sadly things aren’t working out fast enough with our not-so-stable economy and she’s being forced to move back to California this weekend. I’m incredibly thankful for the time that we where able to spend together and pray for much more of it soon. So Janie, if you’re reading this. I love you my dearest friend and hope that somehow we will be able to live close to each other soon!

Tomorrow I hope to share a rough draft or a work in process with you as I won’t have any “finished” art until Monday. I’ve been busy working though! Art is my way of life as you well know! See you tomorrow with a tidbit of something ~ even if it’s a “teaser.”

It’s Good To Be Queen

It’s Good To Be Queen is a take on a journal page I did months back. This version is done on artist paper with watercolor pencils and dry brushed rubber stamping inks. I added some stamped images and a large letter Q. She’s a sassy queen with all the colors surrounding her. I also have the same queen woodburned onto a piece of birch and am going to do her up in different colors and mediums. She’s just so fun to play with that I couldn’t resist doing two. It’s interesting to see how different mediums take to different surfaces and you can learn a lot by doing one piece with two different surfaces. I keep a scrap paper and scrap wood to test my mediums before applying to my actual piece, this helps ease the stress of OMG am I going to ruin this painting ~ and it allows you to get a feel for how the paint/s will take to the sufaces.

Happy Hump Day ~ Today I’m making a pot roast for dinner with big chunks of potatoes, onions and a mustard/sour cream sauce to go with. It’s certain to be a hit! (… I hope…) Tomorrow I’m making some spicy Chinese peanut low mien. Planning a bit in advance helps me to organize my time better and not stress if I’ve overspend my time painting. If you have some hit recipes to share, please link them in a comment! Also, please post your current projects as well. I’d love to visit your blogs!

With A Cherry On Top!

Ξ April 27th, 2009 | → 1 Comments | ∇ Art-tastic, Fun with Food, Les Petite Dolls |

With A Cherry On Top is painted in the same fashion as Tippy Toes ~ and I plan a third painting to go with these two. She’s topped with lots of icing and looks good enough to eat. Who doesn’t love a cupcake!? When the last cupcake girl is complete I’ll take a picture of the grouping. Monday’s are always slow art days for me as I have after the weekend household things that need to get done. I did manage to get some woodburning done today so I have two paintings I’m working on now, and angel and a wood nymph. I’ll keep you updated as I go. Our weather is awesome today so I’m stepping away from the keyboard and enjoying the sunshine for now! Happy Monday ~ Only 4 more days till TGIF =P

Let Em’ Eat Cake!

Queen of Cake

The power of chocolate! Any princess would be happy to be up a tree with a chocolate cake to enjoy. Raining leaves and flowers just proves anything can happen when a girl has her chocolate. =) There’s lots of different mediums used in this painting from rubber stampings to confetti. The icing on the cake is layered with texture paste and painting enticing pink with glittering watercolors and topped with dimensional glittering paint. Shimmers just don’t show well enough from photos but this painting is full of sparkle. Now I’m off to work on yet another painting that has lots more frosting in it. =) In the meantime, have some dessert!

Little Bunny Foo Foo

Happy Springtime! Little Bunny Foo~Foo hopping through the forest. Easter may have pasted for the year but this bunny’s still busy hopping around the neighborhood greeting her winged friends and sneaking carrots from Mr. McGregor’s garden. =) I used fun flock for the fur and collage papers for the body, the tulip, and the birdhouse. With swirls of watercolors, acrylics, and gel pens this piece has spring sparkle. Today I’m working on several different paintings along with doing some light housework and going outside to enjoy the sun. Hoppy Tuesday! See you back here soon.

Sunshine!

Ξ April 16th, 2009 | → 1 Comments | ∇ Art-tastic, The Great Outdoors! |

For a while it looked pretty hit and miss as to whether our weather was going to give us a break in the clouds. Finally after an extremely harsh winter the daffodils are happy again, and so is the sun! This was one of those I have no idea what I’m doing painting. I started by just rolling a round stamp over the wood and seeing what would happen. This is the final result. I have a plethora of Rollagraph rubber stamps from back in the day when I made stacks and stacks of cards. As any artist knows we are pack rats by nature. Never giving up any luscious tidbit of artsy creative juice, so I’ve held on to all my stamping supplies and now I just modify their uses. You can faintly see the sunshines in the background as I layered paints and other creative goodies over the top. The sun is shining in golden glory with brilliant golden metallic eyes. The flowers are bloomin off the vine and life is bursting forth! YAY for blue skies! =) Stay tuned for more upcoming brightness soon. Happy Almost Friday!

Wish!

I dream of Jeannie! This is my take on Barbara Eden’s role as Jeannie. What a fun process this was! Lots of different mediums and embellishements with swirls and circles. Painting blonde hair is tricky so I added some lavender to give it some life. There’s gel pens, collage papers, stamping, tissue paper, and oodles of paint and other artful goodies. As always this was a blast. I’m working on a sunshine as well that will be finished tomorrow. I have several others on my desk that I’m working on between coats of drying paint and will be sharing them with you soon.  May all your wishes come true for you! Happy Hump Day. =)

Garden Girl

Ξ April 13th, 2009 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Art-tastic |

Spring is elusive again here in the Pacific Northwest. We had a wet and drippy Easter and stayed home. I spent most of the day painting and this is one of the results. Garden Girl is painted using the techniques I learned in Willowing’s Word of Whimsey Class. If you’re into mixed media and learning new techniques this is a very fun class to take. Our last lesson was this week, so if you sign up now you’ll get all six weeks as soon as you pay. Fun times. =) This week in my Whimsy Art Workshop class we’ll be learning about faces and shading, my favorite part of all the online classes I take.
I placed an order with Dick Blick today and got a few things that are on my wist list! So exciting. Can’t wait for my goodies to get here! Well, I’m off for now, I hope you had an awesome Easter and that you did’nt put all your eggs in one basket!

Smiles are Blooming!

Ξ April 8th, 2009 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Art-tastic, For The Kingdom, Les Petite Dolls, The Great Outdoors! |

Smiles are finally blooming after a long, hard, cold winter. The snows have melted, the winds have eased up, and the clouds aren’t nearly as heavy as they have been in the past weeks. The earth is finally bursting into color again. This small 5×6 painting depicts the wonders of spring and rebirth. I’m looking forward to planting some new flowers in my barrels on our deck. We bought an outdoor table and chairs to enjoy the warm weather evenings. All we need now is a citronella candle and we’re good to go! =) Tomorrow I’ll be working on my Jeannie painting! I’ll share more later. Happy Hump Day!
