Forever True

Pretty in pink this bride is dressed for her big day. With pink accents, flowers, hearts, swirls, and embellishements this bride is overflowing with love! From collage papers to pink kleenex and napkins this painting has layers of stencils, stamps, streaks of paint along with dimensional paint and beads. With touches of purple from her hair to her eyes she’s got sparkles from her lips to her train. This was very fun to paint and once I got rolling on her she really came to life quickly. All the extra embellishements actually makes her one of my favorites. It was fun working with kleenex for her train, I stamped flowers behind it before using mod podge to adhere the tissue. It has wrinkles and layers and is highlighted with pastel chalks. Her dress has a pocket that is bursting with love and hearts and flowers. May your love be forever true too!

Scarlet Empress

Scarlet Empress was inspired by the business card from the shop Scarlet Empress in downtown Olympia. On my day out with my niece last week we ran across this awesome shop and I asked for a business card. What you see on the heart and the crown is the back of the card. The paper was just so gorgeous I was inspired to make something with it. I used floral tissue paper for the flowers and the dress. There is a juicy layer of texture paste under the tissue on her dress to add extra depth. Keeping in the theme of red, black, and white it was a challenge to pick an eye color. I went with grey and used lots of iridescent medium to add sparkle. There are two chipboard flowers painted black and sparkled up as well. With a little splattering and some red rhinestones this piece is topped off with a string of fun fur glued to the edge. I plan to mount this on a black back board to “frame” it. For now I photographed it on a black book. This was a very fun painting to create. Today I’m starting something new and working on challenges. What’s on your Monday easel?

Journal Love

I had a bit of down time on the couch last week and this is what developed from it. I worked on it a little each evening while relaxing to TV. I dug my Conte’ Pastel Pencils out from my supply closet and had fun using them in part of this journal entry. As with most of my drawings and paintings I don’t start out with an idea. I let the pencil tell the story. The pencil enters a magical world and guides me through it. It’s always an adventure to see what will unfold. I’ve had this journal for years and only used it to scribble in so I’m having fun resurfacing the pages and recycling my investment. I’ll post more from it this coming week. I’ll also have some more paintings finished! I’m working on a bride painting at them moment and she’s nearly finished. (She’ll be off honeymooning super soon!)  Happy TGIF to you all and God Bless!

Open, Open, Open

Happiness is an open store! And for the owner at the end of a long day…happiness is a closed store, which is what it says on the back side of the open sign. I had the best time making this door hanger and went over the top with detail and embellishments. It’s a fave of the family and will be in Etsy today. I used pink, pink, pink! The background is painted ivory and stamped with pink flowers and green leaves, I used collage papers for her dress and her hat. She has embellished flowers in her hair and a brad flower in her hand with a green rhinestone center. Her face and hair are woodburned onto this wooden door hanger that I bought years and years ago. I’m hoping I’ll be able to find more of them as this was such a treat of a project to make. I decided not to give her pupils to add a little extra interest to her face. Fun, Fun, Fun! I’m always having fun with my paints! =)

Necklace Fever!

Necklaces up and ready for sale at my Etsy shop. I have had so much fun making these gorgeous goodies. I put my Moo cards to good use. I used some of them to make these girly girl pendants. I can also make custom designs upon request so if you have something in mind please don’t hesitate to contact me. I’m always open to commissions and turning your ideas into art. Today I’m working on an adorable door hanger and will have it ready to post tomorrow! It’s turning out super sweet. And as always during a project my desk is a disaster area so I’m off to straighten it up so I can “think” straight! Happy Monday. =)

Take Flight

Take Flight ~ From the imagination of my sketchbook. This is the first time I’ve used ribbon in a painting (that I remember.) Along with ribbon I also used quite a few fabric paints. From Fashion Beadz, to Scribbles, to SoSoft Fashion Sequins. I used texture paste for the dress and added layers of pink, blue, and lavender torn tissue paper. I highlighed the tissue strips with Yasutomo Pearlescent Watercolors and General’s Pastel Chalks. I’m always trying new mediums to see how they work with mixed media and find that fabric mediums are great for working on the wood surfaces that I use. I used some stencils and some rubberstamps to fill in the background. Her wings are pages from an old novel that have been painted. I added beadz to the dress neckline and scattered a few at the tips of her wings. I’ve also used some scribbles glitter paints to add some twinkles through the painting. She’s going up on Etsy soon so be on the lookout! =)

Butterfly Kisses

Butterfly Kisses *** This painting pretty much created itself. I took the girl from a sketch I did when I was visiting my parents and put her in the middle of the birch wood. She’s woodburned on and painted and collaged around. I used stamped butterfly’s and some butterfly sequins with I layered over with crinkled blue tissue paper. Bubble wrap and soda caps were used to stamp texture onto the background. There are napkin “leaves” scattered about, as well as used for the collar of her dress. The collar is topped with Fashion Beadz ~ Self-Adhesive Beads for Fabric. I used a plethora of mediums for this piece including, acrylic paints, watercolor and prismacolor pencils, pastel chalks, label maker with super spiffy colored labels! =) Gorgeous paper I bought on my venture to my parents. Sweet little flower bling! All girls need hair accessories. I’m very happy with how this painting turned out. She makes me smile every time I glance her way. Today I’m working on a little fairy bug in purples, pinks, and blues. I’d say she’s half-way done. I’m also recycling a journal by rejournaling over sketches and doodles I did about 8 years ago. I’ll post as I go. AND! My very first Moleskine journal arrived via USP yesterday! I’m excited about working in it but don’t want to start until I’ve completed the recycled journal. Looks like I’m good for art journals for a while. =) That leaves room for more art supplies! (Like I need any!) Have a happy hump day and leave a comment and let me know what you’re up to! =) Thanks for dropping in.
