Scarlet Empress

Scarlet Empress was inspired by the business card from the shop Scarlet Empress in downtown Olympia. On my day out with my niece last week we ran across this awesome shop and I asked for a business card. What you see on the heart and the crown is the back of the card. The paper was just so gorgeous I was inspired to make something with it. I used floral tissue paper for the flowers and the dress. There is a juicy layer of texture paste under the tissue on her dress to add extra depth. Keeping in the theme of red, black, and white it was a challenge to pick an eye color. I went with grey and used lots of iridescent medium to add sparkle. There are two chipboard flowers painted black and sparkled up as well. With a little splattering and some red rhinestones this piece is topped off with a string of fun fur glued to the edge. I plan to mount this on a black back board to “frame” it. For now I photographed it on a black book. This was a very fun painting to create. Today I’m starting something new and working on challenges. What’s on your Monday easel?
