Happy Halloween

Ξ October 31st, 2009 | → 1 Comments | ∇ Art-tastic, Les Petite Dolls |

If I could dress up like this for Halloween I’d do it in a heartbeat! Not exactly a Halloween painting but festive nonetheless. This Gyspy Rose is delicately decked out in pinks and purples and flowers galore! She’s got the grooviest headdresses around too! Traveling the world and discovering all that is life along the way. What are you wearing for Halloween!? I’d love to see your costumes or hear what you’ve got up your trick or treat sleeve! In the meantime the candies in a decorative bowl by the front door just waiting till nightfall and all the ghouls and boys to show up! May you drown in chocolate tonight! =)

Bee in Her Bonnet

Ξ October 30th, 2009 | → 2 Comments | ∇ Art-tastic, Challenges, Les Petite Dolls, The Great Outdoors! |

This painting is inspired by an article/project from the Sept/October issue of Cloth*Paper*Scissors. I absolutely fell in love with the fabric dolls and bought the fiberfill to start making them. As you know I’ve been so engrossed with painting that adding another project is always a challenge. I happened to have a long narrow wooden birch canvas left and thought ~ HEY! Why not do a painting of one of these adorable dolls!? So here she is. I still plan to make some cloth dollies as they are just to cute to pass up. In the meantime however I have this sweet bee to look at and inspire me. Whatcha think?

Follow The …

Dorothy! My first Wizard of Oz painting. What a fun thing to do. It opens the door up to a series of paintings of each character. Something I will explore at a later date. I think Dorothy turned out rather sweet. This tiny 4×4 painting is collaged with napkin leaves, ribbons, collage papers, button dots, glitter glaze and a castle stencil. Instead of using black around her eyes I went with a more red-headed hue color. I like how it worked! =) Today I’m finishing up a doll painting. I got the idea for this from the Sept/Oct issue of Cloth*Paper*Scissors magazine. It’s not a 4×4, it’s a bigger piece. It’s colors are bright and happy and make me think of Spring. I’ll have it posted tomorrow. I’m also working on my tiny squares and having a ball with them. The more you create the more ideas you get for more creations. The imagination is like a muscle, the more you use it the stronger it gets. Ideas start pouring out of nowhere! I keep an idea notebook to refer to when I’m drawing a blank. It’s pages are growing and growing! I don’t think I’ll every be able to create all the ideas I come up with but having a notebook to look at sure gives me giggles sometimes. Until tomorrow! There’s truly no place like home! God Bless.

Frida Cat

Ξ October 28th, 2009 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Art-tastic, Les Petite Dolls |

*Frida Cat* makes me super happy. She just turned out so bright and cheerful. She’s in her Halloween costume ready for trick or treating. She’s amidst the bright Day of the Dead flowers and has a gorgeous pink sparkling flower on her cat hat. This has a lot of collage elements including leaves cut from paper napkins, vellum flower confetti, collage papers, a puffy metalic pink heart, rubberstamped flowers, and teeny tiny pink flower fingernail art stickers. This is by far one of my favorite 4x4s so far. I have 2 more 4×4 wooden birch canvases left. One is done, (and will be posted tomorrow) and one will need a sanding due to a nasty hazardous accident with some glue. Heheh! (The biohard dangers of art!) I’m now working on the last of my sheet of birch I had cut and the last of the pieces are 3 3/8x 3 3/8. The smaller the pieces of wood get the more challenging it gets to create art on them. And who doesn’t like a good challenge!? Come back tomorrow to see how Dorothy turned out! =)

Angel Baby

*Angel Baby* mini 4×4 painting is loaded with goodies! She’s woodburned onto the small birch canvas and collaged with oodles of goldleafing, lots of stars, a delicious apricot dress and topped with a spiffy flower. The combination of colors pretty much gave birth to itself. I started with an apricot colored textured collaging paper for her dress and found goodies in my piles of supplies that looked like they would go with apricot. The purple seems to set it off with the combination of gold. What a fun subject. You can really never go wrong when you paint an angel. =) May the angel of the Lord look after you as you paint today. Tomorrow I have a new Frida Kahlo painting to post. She’s Frida with a “twist.” I got a little “punny” with her and I just love how she turned out. =) Today I’m putting the finishing touches on Dorothy. I also placed an order with Dick Blick today… Here’s what I’m super excited about getting ~~ Grafix Rub-onz Transfer Paper, Stabilo Pacific Roller, and Strathmore Artist Trading Cards, and that’s it for this order. I’m SUPER excited about getting to make my own Rub-onz! What a fantastic thing to be able to do. =) I’ll be sure to share my ideas with you when I have my paint stained handys greedily grabbing the Grafix! =) Until tomorrow… Keep the paint wet!

Go Ask Alice

Ξ October 26th, 2009 | → 1 Comments | ∇ Art-tastic, Les Petite Dolls |

My first Alice painting. Her little bottle of potion sure looks a lot like Merlot so I’d probably have no problem drinking it. What a suprise it must have been to get the effect that she did. This painting comes after watching the movie Phoebe in Wonderland. If you haven’t seen it yet you really must. It’s a very tender story and you can’t help but fall in love with Phoebe. On my desk I also have my first painting of Dorothy. The Wizard of Oz is 70 years old this year so there’s a lot of fan fair and what a plethora of wonderful painting ideas it has. Once I’ve finished all my mini paintings I’m going to venture out and make a few larger Alice and Dorothy pieces. Halloween is getting closer and closer so I hope you are all getting ready for the boy and ghouls who’ll be out trick or treating! =) Until tomorrow … God Bless!

Checkers

Checkers is a mini 4×4 painitngs done with festive seasonal Kleenex, collage paper, chipboard, rhinestone sticker, mini heart square stickers and beadz. She’s bright and cheerful and has fun blend of colors to brighten any office cube, desk space, locker, or cozy corner. She’d be sweet on an easel or hung from a cord. I have 2 mini paintings that I’m currently putting the finishing touches on to share with you over the next two days. I’m SURE to have even more done as the week progresses. We’re just kickin’ back and enjoying the cool October Saturday that we’ve been blessed with. The autumn leaves are a gorgeous array of yellows, oranges, and reds. I’ll be taking some pictures of them soon to share with you. With Halloween around the corner I’ll be bringing out a few fun decorations to make the next week more festive! What costume are you picking this year for the spooky celebration of CANDY!?

Artichoke Arrie

Who needs hair when you can have leaves! She looks like a little artichoke girl all decked out in green amidst the greenery of her garden. Everyone needs a leaf hat when gardening! This 4×4 has the use of stencils, rubberstamps, collage elements, glitter glue, sparkle glaze, chipboard and yummy swirls and smears of colors. The sides and back are painted green and she’s ready for varnishing. She’s going in my pile of minis to finish after I’ve completed all the mini’s I’ve got the wood for. I have four going at the moment drying on my desk and I have the wood for six more. I’ll be busy into late next week completing mini paintings. I’m having a great time with them and will string em up with fun fur and wire and beads when they are all completed. What mini is your favorite so far!? Happy TGIF and have a great weekend! God Bless. =)

Flower Shower

Ξ October 22nd, 2009 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Art-tastic, For The Kingdom, Les Petite Dolls, The Great Outdoors!, The Healing Garden |

Flower Shower is another mini painting ready to be strung with fun fur. Once I’ve finished all my mini’s I’ll do my varnishing and drilling assembly line style. Then I’ll post them on Etsy and say my prayers. This blue and yellow piece has flowers cut from paper doilies and painted a pale yellow and a shimmering blue. I used rhinestones and beadz to add centers to the flowers as well as add dimensions. Her hair is painted tan using acrylic paint and topped off with pastel pencils to add extra softness. She’s just a soft sweet gal standing happily in a shower of pastel flowers! Happy Thursday! Tomorrow’s mini painting has a fun twist. Come back and see how I wind up the week!

Wonder

Ξ October 21st, 2009 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Art-tastic, For The Kingdom, Les Petite Dolls, The Healing Garden |

*Wonder* is another one of my mini paintings. She’s just short of being a 4×4.  I started boldly with a bright green paint by Ceramcoat called Gecko. What a fun color! After debating with myself for a few days while working on other paintings. I finally settled on a Tahiti Blue as an accent color. I’m super happy with the results. I added some deep purple and some lavender and tinted her blond tresses with blue as well. I used glitter glaze on the purple centers of the flowers and the blue of her eyes. The leaves and her dress are collage elements as are the mini blue flowers which are actually fingernail art stickers I picked up on one of my mixed media shopping scavenger hunts. She’s offically one of my favorite mini’s. Enjoy! She’ll be strung with fun fur before she hits Etsy.
