I’ve spent the better part of the morning, well…actually…ALL of the morning working on my Etsy shop. I’ve added ALL of recent mini paintings and throughout the week I plan on adding some of my medium sized paintings as well. I was hoping to have my work in shops downtown by this time but due to my ankle and my inability to do much walking I’m rather stuck for now. Hopefully I’ll get some news this Friday when I see my Ankle specialist again. This is the worst Christmas present I’ve ever had! It just keeps on giving (grief!) I’m bound and determined to turn this lemon into lemonade though! So don’t give up on me just yet. Check back again tomorrow ~ I have an especially sweet art journal entry I want to share with you.
I’ve spent the past few days just playing around in my art journal. I’m desperately trying to fill this journal so I can start in my Moleskine. I don’t like to abandon a journal once I’ve started in it. I love going back over old journals and seeing the progress I’ve made over the past few years. I spend time online reading artists blogs and looking over art groups on Flickr to find ideas that will challenge me. I check out the artists work and then put my own twist on it. I throw caution to the wind and let myself do something that I don’t normally do. It’s how we learn. This journal entry is simply an illustration done on pages torn from an old paperback book. I used a Reeses Peanut Butter Cup wrapper for the flower center. I lightly sketched the flower out with a pencil then went over it with a .02 Micron pen. For color I used a little bit of colored pencil and a little bit of pastel pencil. The flower center is acrylic paint gone over with my Micron pen. It’s basically recycled art. I LOVE images done over text. I like how the shading looks and how the text shows through playing peek-a-boo with the eye.
