♥ Live Loud ♥
And she’ll have fun, fun, fun, till her daddy takes her crayons away! Just another art journal experiment. I used a kraft type notebook paper called Cigar Paper that I bought at the college book store about 5 years ago. (I bought all they had left at the time and they were on sale. =) I lined it up with the ring holes at the top of the journal page and started to play. I took a few pieces of ripped collage paper and glued them down and tossed it aside for the day. That evening I picked up the journal and headed to the sofa with pencil in hand. I drew this girl and intended to give her a tri-colored face to see how it would look. As you can see the blending didn’t go so well as I didn’t use a glazing medium so the paint dried way to fast on the paper. No biggy, it’s just journal jazz and that’s where we learn and play. I gave her a matching hat, added funky flowers and cut leaves from collage paper. I outlined here with a black chalk pencil and used a handy dandy Q-tip to smudge it up. She looks like she’s just clowning around which is exactly what I was doing when I created her. Fun times as always! I just enrolled in a new online art class called Chaos and Calm. It promises to be something very different and educational. I can’t wait to buy my canvases and a few new brushes and get my fingers covered in messy paint goodness! If you want to check it out.. it’s Here! I LOVE the paintings in the background and would love to be able to paint something as wonderfully colorful and interesting as them. I’m super excited about getting started and will be on it asap on Monday morning.
In the meantime I’ll be playing with goodies already on my desk and spending the weekend with the hubs. I’ll see you back here tomorrow with some tags I’ve made to share with you. Have an awesome Saturday!

Shelix the Cat

♥ Shelix the Cat ♥
This was awesome! I had the best time with this she-cat. The first thing I did was choose her “attire” … and then I was stumped. When I get that way the first thing to do is SOMETHING! I started by adding turquoise. I used a circular patterned piece of “plastic” I have and stamped through it with a very small sponge. It overwhelmed me. To toned it down I added white tissue paper… and did a turquoise wash over it. Much better…But it still needs more, so black lava texture gel! Oh yes! Now I’m thinking of something to add to make it more interesting. Dig, dig, dig, dig, dig, through drawers, boxes, more boxes, more drawers… ah ha! I found the perfect ORANGE flowers… with yellow flowers along side. Hold the phone, the yellow brings far more punch to the party. (learned something about color.!) The flowers have a pop-dot on the back and I decide to leave it so the painting has more dimension. I like. Now for leaves, I collaged on some leaves cut from decorative napkins. (truly the only reason I bought 2 packages of these napkins.) I wanted a tad more yellow so I used a hard bodied yellow acrylic paint and stamped a few flowers around. It still needs something… While all this was going on and I was waiting for paint to dry I was also working on some gift tags… I was using green fabric for a flower for them (I’ll share them over the weekend) I had a messy pile of tiny tugged threads from said fabric “right” in front of me and I’m one to never let a medium go to waste… so grabbing my brush and gel medium on they go… all over this piece. And as each hat needs a ribbon and a flower or a feather, I chose a feather. Seriously, what cat wouldn’t be proud to display a birds feather in her cap! And she’s done. I hope you enjoyed the story of Shelix the Cat and how she came to be. I hope your TGIF is Fantastic and that all of your creative dreams come true!

Polka Dot

••• Polka Dot •••
She’s not doing the Polka but her name is Dot. Surrounded by circles and spheres she’s caught a flower in her hand and now has something to put in her vase at home. This pink and blue little blessing was a very fun painting to put together. I used so many different mediums and ephemera. I started with a pink background and used pen caps dipped in various colors of paint to stamp “bubbles.” Adding blobs of acrylic paints and dripping rubbing alcohol on them helped them to chase across the wooden canvas making interesting patterns that peek through the tissues, glittering circles, mini gold-rimmed stickers, and opaque white flakes. I used a pink Kleenex for the pink layered “paper.” The collage paper is something new I picked up a few weeks ago, it’s actually got a sticky back to it so it’s simply cut and peel! I gave her a 20′s style headband and topped it with a matching flower. To finish this off I dripped pearly crayons onto it and added a few rhinestones to give her extra girly bling. She’s ready for varnish and a picture hanger… and then she’ll be ready for a new home.

♥ Faces ♥
I spent last evening drawing these girls onto 4.4″ wooden canvases and couldn’t sleep, so I was up at 2:00 A.M wood-burning them into the wood. This morning I was up bright  and early (…and very blurry eyed.) shading their faces. They are now ready for action! Time to pick colors and themes and create some dreams. This is nearly like having a blank canvas as I ponder each one and choose colors and clothes. I think I’ll go outside the box on a few to stretch my color limits. Any ideas? Thanks for dropping by… be sure to come back tomorrow to see “Shelix the Cat.” She came fresh off the canvas late last night.

Marie Antionette Goes Goth

♥ Marie Gone Goth ♥
This piece was a complete blast to make. I did this as a challenge prompted by EraserQueen on her challenge site which she got from Gothic Arches  I’ve never done an arch before but I’ve seen quite a few of them and thought they were very creative and imaginative. I used an ATC for the piece to “frame” with the arch. I added “old world” collaging papers and rubber-stamping along with thick layers of gold paint and some black lava texture gel. I’m super excited with how this turned out. I’m not sure yet what I’ll do with it.. but it would make an awesome piece to glue on the front of an art journal… or add a hanger to the back, or a put on a desk easel. It could even make a fun greeting card front. I guess the possibilities are endless. I finished a few other art-tastic things yesterday as well that I’ll be sharing as the week goes by. I did some very fun journal play and worked on a couple 4×4″ minis. Today I’ll be putting the finishing touches on some minis and finishing off some gift tags I started playing with last night. So far today it’s cool so I’m opening up the house to let out the overnight stuffiness and enjoy the cool morning breeze. So until tomorrow! I hope you find some fun challenges to take part in and I hope you share your links with me! Happy Hump Day!

Call On Me

Call On Me
I did the majority of this journal entry while laying on the couch last night in front of the air conditioner. Before hitting the sofa I glued a page from the phone book into my journal…then grabbing a huge mug of ice and poured some Mountain Dew into it…. I was ready to set out sketching. Instead of using colored pencils for her face I got up and ran to my desk and quickly painted her face a flesh tone with soft body acrylic paint. Then ran back fast to the cool side of the room. I used a Micron 02 pen for the illustration part of this. I did some “doodles” on her hair and then ran back to my desk again and grabbed some blue paint for her dress, once painted, I hopped back over to the AC and did more doodles on her dress. The shading on her face is done using a General’s Pastel Chalk pencil in Sanguine and blending it with a Q-tip. This page was super simple, super quick, and quite a bit of fun considering I got to lay in front of the nice cool AC unit while creating. Today it’s overcast and the doors and windows are open to help get the last of the stale air out. It feels wonderful to have the house air out and the gentle breeze tease it’s way through the windows. I hope you’re not to warm where you are… and I hope you’re having a craftily creative day! It’s 2sday again already and this week I’m sharing something rather silly yet fully functional! It’s time again for ~~~~
♥ Tammy’s Toys ♥
Round dice! What fun. They actually work too. I have no idea how long I’ve had these or where I got them. They were more than likely a gift from someone who knows of my admiration for the fun, funky, whimsical, and wacky. I hope you enjoyed this weeks toy “show & tell” and remember to take time to PLAY!

Angel’s Prayers

♥ Angel’s Prayers ♥
I did a lot of finger painting for the background of this piece. I love the way the colors blended together. It softened each color of paint into something that was nothing but heavenly! Hence! We have an angel. I have been buying these angel wing stickers each time I’ve been shopping…. so now I’m up to having 3 sets of stickers. This is the first time I’ve used them though. I painted over them with a wash of white     to include them cohesively into the painting without having to include silver leafing…. as the edges of the wings are silver. Normally I like to stick with a three-color scheme, as I did here. The colors of the background turned out so enchanting that I didn’t want to overdo the layering that would end up covering it. So… I added stamps.. embellished with metallic stick-ems.  … adding a wash with watercolor pencil, and few fingernail stickers. With beadz and a decorative leaf from an exquisite teabag I added as much as I dared while not hiding the blended background. Experiment! That’s how I ended up with the colors of this piece. Of all the wood-burned pieces I wasn’t really sure how this girl would end up ~ I am extremely happy with how my efforts overcame the challenges that were presented to me ended up. May angel prayers be with you!

Weeds or Wildflowers

Ξ July 22nd, 2010 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Art-tastic, Les Petite Dolls, The Great Outdoors! |

Weeds or Wildflowers
This is the time of year when while out in the mountains meadows weeds will look like wildflowers and wildflowers may look like weeds. The most common “pesky” yet pretty “weed” is the dandelion but it has so many uses and it’s actually a beautiful flower especially when it’s ready to be blown into the wind by an innocent child that the bliss across their lips never occurs to them that so many people are chemically treating their lawns to be rid of the yellow smiles. My great grandmother used to collect dandelion greens and make teas and salads from them, and today we find them to be the bane of our gardening existence. I used to cut them off near the top of their stems and float them in a decorative bowl to add a ray of sunshine to a room. Today where I live I can’t pick the flowers as we are renting. I have a very few growing on our deck which I will share with you when more have opened up to the summer’s welcoming sun. In the meantime however, I shall paint them in my pictures and await the day when I have a “yarden” of my own to plant some pretties in. I got my grocery shopping done early this week, so my Friday is clear for a full day of painting and wonder. I hope your pre-TGIF day was awesome and that you have a terrific weekend to look forward to.

Summer Festival

♥ Summer Festival ♥
I’ve been playing today! I spend yesterday afternoon wood-burning five mini 4×4″ wooden panels. What a fun way to spend pre-dinner time. After dinner I spent time working on all five of the faces and getting them shaded and ready for “final” play. Today upon getting up I dug out my collage papers and spent time deciding on who was going to wear what. After I’d chosen the wardrobe I started in on the background with this girl. She’s sitting pretty on a pink background with yellow and green accents…with circles and stamps and torn pieces of pink tissue… then layered with glitters of all kinds. To top her off I gave her some pretty eyeshadow and sparkled her eyes and lips. She’s ready to head toss confetti at the festival now. Here’s a peek at what I’m working on now. I have two more of these nearly finished.

 ♥ Wood-burning Fun ♥
I love having so many “canvases” ready for paint. It’s such a joy to sit and paint and create cute little paintings and pictures. I sell them on Etsy and am getting some ready to take downtown plus, I always have a gift on hand. Either way, I’m always busy and covered in paint. It’s time now to head to the kitchen and start another creative process called “dinner.” I hope to see you back here tomorrow for more fun and creative juice… freshly squeezed!

Up for the Challenge

Journal Jazz

I did this wild and crazy colorful butterfly for the week 5 prompt at EraserQueen Studios. We post our final projects in a Flickr group she’s created for us. It’s a fun way to force yourself to use different colors together. The outer edge of this looks more pink then red in the photo but it’s red oil pastel smear with my fingers. Messy and fun! I did NO art yesterday at all so I needed to get my creativity in today before starting some new mini paintings. I have 5 I need to sketch out and wood-burn. I got involved in a video game yesterday, something I don’t do to much of any more. But it’s fun to do something different once in a while and I do get creative ideas from playing them. I’m playing one my hubs played during my first month after my ankle surgery. I was out of it most of the time so he needed something to keep him entertained. It’s Dragon Age Origin and can be quite a time sink so be warned if you’re a gamer. It’s Tuesday again which means it’s time for show and tell also known as: Tammy’s Toys! Today I thought I’d share something cute and cuddly and something we will some day see.

“The lamb will lie down with the lion”

My mom gave me the lamb a long time ago after a hospital stay and the lion is a “toy” I bought for the hubs… pairing them seemed perfect and we have them sitting together to show not only our faith but also the difference in our personalities! I think they are absolutely adorable… and you can’t really tell here, but.. the lion has a wobbly head… which makes him hilarious. (cuz I can alway make him agree with me! HEE!) Have a terrific 2sday I’ll see you again super soon!

Just Cry…

Ξ July 17th, 2010 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Art-tastic, For The Kingdom, Les Petite Dolls, The Healing Garden |

We all do it. We all need to do it. It’s an inner cleansing. I always try to keep a pretty box of Kleenex on hand for when the tears are telling me it’s time to let them out. Close yourself off in a room, turn on some music♫, or not, and just let the water works begin. Sometimes we have NO idea why we feel the need to let them go but there’s a good reason whether you know it or not. The more they stay bottled up the worse it will be when it’s time to cry. For heaven’s sake, you don’t want a flash flood after all. A good cry is usually followed by a good nap for me… a good shower is another wonderful alternative. We cleanse our insides and finish the job by cleansing our outsides. Be sure to finish off the whole cleansing process with a good prayer. I find I often pray while I’m crying. God knows us. He knows what we need more than we do. He knows you need to cry and he loves you so much he saves ALL your tears in a bottle. The your tears flow and enjoy the peace that follows your spiritual cleansing. He will never give you more than you can handle. 1 Corinthians 10:30 (NIV) Always feel free to water your healing garden whenever the urge overcomes you! Have a fantastic weekend and God Bless YOU!
