Hanky Swankie
How CUTE! While shopping for groceries this week the store was packed with school supplies and I found these among them. They were just too cute to pass up. I can use these just like the paper napkins I use in my art. I looked them up online when I got home and found a whole array of wonderful little nose blowers! Check out some of their other awesome designs here. These would make really cute party favors or an alternate for candy for Halloween/Easter/Insert holiday here. I’m working on a orange and pink painting right now but have a horribly early Dr’s appointment this morning so I’m not sure how much I’ll get done today. I’ve added the liquid appliqué this morning so it has time to dry while I’m getting my test results. It’s going to be a day! It’s finally raining (on the day I have to go all the way across town!) Go figure. I’ll let you know how my appointment goes. /Prays! See you tomorrow.

Trick or Treat

Trick or Treat
Another small 4×4″ done! This cutie was completed today with the addition of gold confetti stars. They just seemed to complete the missing element from this pizazzy piece. I used: ~~~ acrylic paints, primsacolor colored pencils, micron pens, gel gens, glitter glue, stickers, rubber stamps, rub ons, collage papers,  confetti, and creative energy! I also used some rhinestones, and fingernail art stickers. I think she turned out just spooky enough! She was still wet as you can tell from the upper right hand corner. But when she’s dry she’ll look purr-fect! Next up on the easel is orange/pink smeared together with fingers…and awesome pigtails! How fun is that? What’s on your easel? And what do you keep on your desk to inspire you? Next week I’ll host a contest on just what painting I’ve done is on my desk inspiring me! Any idea!? If you post now and ask I’ll give a yay or nay, next week I’ll have to keep quiet though.

MerMaiden
I just got finished this little mermaid. What a fun little 4×4″ creation. I used acrylic paints, colored pencils, micron, and gel pens, along with glitter glue. I dripped crayon wax over it and buffed the wax with a paper towel to make it shine. For bling I used rhinestones, a decorative leaf, glitter-collaging paper. I also used torn colored tissue paper for part of the background layering. All I need to do now is wait for her to dry… yes, I was so excited to post this that the glitter glue is still wet! When she’s dry and I have finished the other four minis I’m working on I’ll get my outside table set up for a varnishing session. Then it’ll be time for the hangers… which reminds me I need to buy more of. =) Since today is shopping day I’ll jot those down on my shopping list. I usually work on at least two paintings at once so that I have something to do while paint dries. The one that’s “nearly” finished is a mini Halloween painting. Think purples, greens, oranges, black and spiders! It’s coming along nicely. I’ll likely have it done by tomorrow so you’ll get a Pre-Halloween treat! Now, off to clean up for a trip to Fred Meyer. Oh… before I go, I have to tell you.. yesterday I put an order in at Dick Blick! I’m finally buying something from my wist list! Stonehenge paper (along with about five other things!) I’m SO excited about blending on butter again! It’s scheduled to arrive on the same day as my physical and the day I get my blood test results so I’ll get to come home to something comforting! You KNOW God planned that perfectly!

Recycled Journal Page

Life

This journal entry started when I was cleaning up from my “I Need Chocolate” painting. I had finished painting the back of the wood panel with Berry Wine and had quite a bit of paint left on my makeshift palette. Rather than let it go to waste I decided to grab a paper towel. I noticed it had a decorative edge which made me smile as I knew I could emphasize it. I laid the towel flat on my desk and sprayed it with a misting of water. Then I started dabbing on the left over Berry paint. Alternating the paint with spraying more water on the towel the paint started to bleed really nicely. Once the paint was all used up and the towel was “pretty” I dabbed the towel with a cloth towel to soak up excess moisture. When it was dry enough to handle I glued the paper towel down in my art journal and let it dry. I used Stabilo markers on the preexisting decorative edge of the towel and brightened the colors to make them ‘P0P’ I used yellow paint to add the dots to the flowers along with the colors on the towel the yellow changed colors accordingly so it turned out very nice. I used a stencil sponge and black rubber stamping ink to stencil the word “Life.” Next comes the fun part… writing down whatever words popped into my head that related to life. The page has a nice “fabric” type feel to it and it’s soft to touch. I’m happy with how it turned out. =) Happy Hump Day! I hope your creative juices are flowing like a river! I’d love to know what you’re up to so leave me a comment and let me know! I’d LOVE to hear from you.

I Have Your Heart

I Have Your Heart
This sassy little heart is created from a recycled shipping envelope. I had not idea that you could get such awesome envies until I got this one in the mail. Of course I saved it and put it in my recycle drawer. Yesterday while playing I had glued down the heart paper as a background for my journal entry and then I started digging through my “green” drawer and rediscovered this envelope! I knew right then how this journal entry would play out. I used the back side of the envelope, so thankfully I still have a full side to play with. The flowers are cut from the envie as are the leaves. I used gel pen on the edges and my aqua brush to blend a bit. The red hearts are stenciled on using a stencil sponge with rubber stamping ink, and the blue hearts are rubber-stamped. It was really an easy peazy piece of pie! Which reminds me I’m going to make banana bread today! And if I need to whisk my eggs I’ll be using one of Tammy’s Toys! Yep! It’s 2sday again and time for Show & Tell. Here’s this weeks:

Tammy’s Toys Tuesday

See you back tomorrow so I can share some more creativity with you! My comments section has been fixed so if you’d like to leave a comment I will love you all forever!

I Need Chocolate

I Need Chocolate
You’ve had those days when nothing will satisfy you like a big chunk of chocolate just like me I bet. There’s something medicinal and soothing about chocolate. It’s one of God’s magic remedies. It’s tastes awesome, is actually good for you and it’s sooths the savage beasties in all of us.  This painting expresses just how much this gal needs her chocolate fix! Thankfully she’s got a big bar ready for unwrapping. This started with layers of cream and red, then I added a wine berry color wash and started layering in colors that would go well with the paper I had chosen for her dress. Of course we had to put some brown in here as after all… chocolate is the deepest of browns. I used gold metallic paper to punch some hearts from to layer over stenciled brown hearts. I used gold leaf to make the piece more cohesive with the use of the gold hearts and the gold wrapper in her candy bar. The edges are dabbed with a rich and thick gold paint that helps to add extra texture and richness. Now, If you’ll excuse me… I hear some chocolate calling me from the kitchen!

I am Torn

I am Torn

Do you ever feel fragmented. I spend a lot of time ignoring the fact that I wish I could defrag myself like I do my computer. To neatly put the packets that make up me into a neat and orderly row. This art journal entry was inspired by Dean at Exploding Doughnut. I spent the entire weekend reading his blog from back to front. I cried, I laughed, I smiled, I nodded many, many times. I left a couple comments. I think a lot of creative people suffer from a multitude of “crap” for lack of a better term. I know that if I don’t create I get cranky…. no I’m not PMSing… ~ I’m having creativity withdrawal! I spent the better half of yesterday afternoon creating this “I Need you to Survive” in my art journal while reading Dean’s blog between coats of paints and layers of love. I finished this today… appropriately on the Sabbath. This entry is dedicated to Dean for his inspiration, his bravery, his curiosity, his generosity, and his fabulous future! The Green is for Dean!

Strawberries and the Beauty of Every Day Objectes.

Strawberry Cleaning
I was reading a new blog I found and came across a painting of a strawberry on it. It got me to thinking of the beauty in everyday objects and I remembered I had taken a picture about a year ago of strawberry stems in the vegetable sink. I saved the photo and didn’t really think too much more about it until today. There is beauty all around us in the most unlikely of places. Something about the strawberry pieces floating in the water struck a cord in me and I wanted to save the memory. Today I want to share the beauty. You can decipher for yourself what you see in the sink. I see many stories. Some sad, some delightful, some uncertain, and some yet to be determined. I’ll let you ponder your own stories. But before I let you go, there can’t be a strawberry without straw.

And so we have ~ the beauty of the broom!

Appointment Sketch Book

Ξ August 20th, 2010 | → 2 Comments | ∇ Art-tastic, For The Kingdom, Les Petite Dolls, The Healing Garden |

As I’ve had so many Dr’s appointments this year I’ve taken to bringing a mini sketch book with me and playing with pencils while I wait. It makes the time I have to wait more tolerable as well as gives me the opportunity to experiment. Tuesday at my ankle appointment I sketched out this sweet little flower and thought I’d share it with you today… as I have another appointment today for my X-rays and blood work… and my “security” journal will be making the trip with me. I think this flower is cute enough to become a painting so I’ll likely be working on that in the coming weeks. Today, who know’s what will end up on paper. I never plan I just let the pencil guide me! If it’s anything noteworthy I’ll be sure to share… until later. Happy TGIF and stay HEALTHY!
