♪ ♫ Songbird ♫ ♪

Happy 2sday! I’m still playing in my art journal as I varnish paintings on the side. This creation was made over a piece of collaging paper I pulled out of my drawer. It was the exact same size as my journal. I love the cracked look in the background. I drew Marie Antoinette over the top and painted her face, neck, and hair, then I started adding papers and stickers, and paper lace and all things Marie. I created the birdcage from a piece of card-stock and painted it with a few layers of gold paint. For the 3D pearly dots I used Scribbles. I think she turned out sweet. I’m very happy with her.
Since it’s again Tuesday it’s time to share one of Tammy’s Toys! Today I have a more of a practical “toy” to share. My mouse died this past week and as much as I loved it…I like a small compact mouse as I have small hands. Driving a large sedan feels to clumsy so finding just the perfect Internet sports cruiser isn’t always easy. I found my new “wheels” at Staples this past weekend and they had it in my favorite color! Who could resist. The cord is retractable too so it could almost double as a YoYo!

Tammy’s Toys

I will miss my old mini mouse as it had so many memories attached to it… so much so that I took it’s pictures before it’s burial. It was beat up and dinged and smudged and loved only as an old sports car mouse can be. It’s now time to make new memories with my new buddy and think PINK!

♥ Twitter…pated ♥
This is how I Twitter. I don’t have a cell phone and just felt plain silly the few times I did twitter from my computer. I do Facebook though☺. More importantly… I finished the birdy! I added gesso, squirts of paint that I have in my Ranger Mini Misters I used a bottle cap and pink paint to create circles. Leaves are stenciled on messily in green, and I added mini sticker flowers and dragonfly confetti. It’s cheeful mess of junk mail! I had a lot of time to play in my journal this weekend and have 3 pages going at once now. I DID buy the organizer. It’s not as detailed as I wanted it to be but it was cost effective. I have done what I’ve written in it as well. I got some neat items while picking up my organizer. We went to lunch at Red Lobster on Saturday and afterwards we hit up Staples. I got my organizer, a cool pink pencil box, and some gel pens. After eating and shopping we came home and watched movies. We watched Green Zone, Percy Jackson: The Lightening Thief, and Mary and Max, I highly recommend Mary and Max. It happy, sad, poignant, and moving. It’s worth watching more than once. And if you have Netflix it’s on instant watch! After a weekend of recreation and creating I’m ready for the week and what it has for me. (and my organizer.)  I’ll see you back here tomorrow to share Songbird with you! Have an awe-filled Monday.

Don’t Be Blue

Don’t Be Blue
This painting looks NOTHING like it started out as. I actually gave the painting a base-coat of red and added white misted with alcohol to add interest and texture. It looked really cool but for some reason I couldn’t follow what the painting was leading me to do. I went over the background with layers of finger-painted pinks, whites, and finally metallic baby blue. I did this about 3 or 4 times before I was satisfied with what I had in front of me. Carefully I picked through my collaging elements knowing that I had a certain shade of blue I couldn’t clash with. I used a Swankies Hankies for a her dress, and a few collaged flowers edged with the metallic baby blue I was using. After adding more elements like the beads and the rhinestones to her dress and including them in the epoxy blue flowers I added I felt the painting was becoming more cohesive. She has a halo of the metallic blue around her head as well as a bit in her hair. It just helped it blend together more and make it look more like it “should.” The red is gone, bits of white remain, lots of pinks and blues remain and I feel she’s who she was meant to be now. The sides are painted with a framing of the blue and a bit of bright pink. She… might get a hint of dark eyeliner but other than that she’s done… and ready to be vanished. So be sure to check back next week and see if she’s smiling at you from Etsy!

Another Work in Progress…

Work in Progress
Using scraps and recycled media I’m playing in my journal with a bird cut from a music advertisement postcard and a paper from local eateries. I plan to gesso over it lightly so it leaves the text visible. Then I’ll add layers and stamps and smudges and just let my fingers do the walking. I grabbed some metallic patina paint to use on this as well..you can see it on the right of the white paint in the background. It’s a soft effect that can be smeared on beautifully giving it a weathered appearance. I’ve had a very productive Etsy week and a very non productive painting week. I think what I need to do is buy myself an organizer and give myself daily tasks. As an artists it’s very hard to manage my time. I live to create and create to live and some of life’s musts go by the way-side. My creative mind goes 100 miles an hour and my practical mind hangs with the snails. I’d like to be better at managing my time and getting more bang for my buck so tomorrow when I grocery shop I’m picking up a daily organizer from the notebook area at Fred Meyer. I’ll task myself with daily things that need done and take a day and spend it promoting and managing my art. I STILL have so many ideas that I can’t seem to fit into my day so if I take the time and MAKE myself follow a schedule I might be able to get more done. I’m more than a bit of a news hound so I listen to news and talk radio way to much. I’m thinking I’ll try to cut down on current affairs so much and include some music in my day to soothe my soul. The Dr wants me more relaxed and I have a tendency to be a stress machine. I internalize… WAY too much! So I’ll take the wings of this bird and fly to soft clouds and relax in their pillows. It’s never to late to change! Right?

Jilly Giraffe

♥ Jilly Giraffe ♥
Staying with my fascination for giraffes I created a giraffe over texture, per my son’s request. He likes when I draw/paint over the textured surfaces of napkins or tissues. So I mod podge’d this down and once it was dry I retraced my giraffe in micron and went to town with chalks. This is simply done with chalks, microns, and q-tips, all over the top of part of the backing of a decorative napkin. Don’t get TOO many wrinkles when doing this effect as it will totally mess up your under-drawing and make in nearly impossible to paint. (Speaking from experience.)It’s best to “wad up” your napkin, then iron it out with your fingertips to the desired wrinkle level, lay it over your drawing and using a mister, spray it down so you you have the desired effect around your detailed drawing.  I love how this giraffe turned out. I love the texture and the blending of colors. I love that chalks can be “married” with a simple q-tip. And the eyes! Who couldn’t fall in love with a giraffe with those eyes? May all your dreams be big and your glasses of Long Island Iced Tea be Tall!

Puppy Love

Puppy Lve
I‘ve done a few kitten paintings but hadn’t taken on the challenge of a pup. So here we go. Challenging? YES! Fun? Absolutely. With lots of dog bones, hearts, and masses of glitter this black and white puppy as you can see is very well loved. From stamps to mini stickers, and several different types of texture mediums I just let loose on this little painting. I think the collage paper I picked out for the pup is perfect! It’s almost “Dalmatian-like.” All she needs is 101 bones! I had a very productive weekend and sold quite a bit on my Etsy store which I completely updated with TONS of minis and goodies. I’ll be paying far more attention to my store as the attention I got was worth the effort I put into it. I’m very happy with the results and very grateful for my clients. And as you know it’s 2sday again! Which brings us to todays Tammy’s Toys show & tell! This toy is such a fun little flashlight. It looks just like one of those “snap” sticks you get around Halloween, but it’s actually a flashlight. I absolutely LOVE it. It’s a non expiring neon stick! I usually stock up on those goofy things at Halloween but now I have one I can play with all year long! Here’s what it looks like as I took a picture of it with the lights off at my desk.

How cool is that?

Before the Fall

Deschutes Parkway
Before long this drive will be decked out in yellows, oranges, and reds. This is directly down the hill from where we live and is the main road we take on our Thursday grocery shopping trips to Fred Meyer. It’s a nice quite drive along Capitol Lake and past a plethora of businesses as the road goes on. I took this shot this week to catch some of the gorgeous greenery. I’ll be sure to takes some photos when the foliage starts to burst into a flame of colors. I love the smell of autumn there’s something about the leaves falling and giving their life back to the earth for the next seasons leaves that makes the cycle of life so beautiful. This week is going to be filled with going to the post office, hitting up the store, finishing up some paintings, and working on some commissions. And it’s raining! Oh how I love the smell. I hope your Labor day as relaxing and that you’re ready to head back to the grind tomorrow. Until then! Enjoy the rest of your labor-less-ness!

Squash Blossom

  Squash Blossom
It’s that time of year when zucchini are bursting forth in full force. Some are getting huge in size so be sure to check your gardens daily! I don’t have a garden where I live right now. We are renting and we have no yard. It’s all trees, and bark, and twigs, and leaves – oh my! The back deck has some planters on it but things aren’t doing so well this year. They are however growing like weeds in my art journal! I just LOVE the zucchini blossom. They are so very delicate and fragile. They are the perfect tribute to the end of summer. The fact that they are edible just makes them more decedent. Now I’m just making myself hungry. /Blerg! Have a great remainder of your Saturday and I hope your Labor Day weekend is Labor-less! Enjoy your time off and Relax!

On Being Green

  Being Green
I’ve been playing with black and white paintings and adding ONE color to them to see how they look. My last one was Check Mate which I thought turned out fabulously! I’m very happy with the combination of green with the black and white as well. It’s quite fun to mix it up and challenge yourself to see what you can come up with when you attempt something that you wouldn’t normally do. This is a plethora of layers of paints, pencils, stamps, texture mediums, inks, stickers, punches, and fabric glitter. I like how some of the patches in the background remained white. It gives that added interest of something clean. Part of the inspiration for the color choice of this painting came from a few pictures I took last week in the kitchen. I was preparing dinner and was out of lettuce, so I figured what the heck… the super crunch of cabbage on a burger would give it an added zest! So after peeling a few leaves off the cabbage I couldn’t help but marvel at the beauty of the plant and snapped a few photogs to share with you here. This is art by GOD! He’s truly the only one that does it so perfectly!

Who’s hungry now!?
