Poppy Love

Here’s another ATC that will be going up in my Etsy shop this week. This was exceptionally fun because I adore this color combination! I started another one this morning and I’m waiting for Mod Podge to dry so I thought I’d drop by and share this. These flowers are SO much fun and so very flexible that you can make just about any color combination, use so many different mediums and experiment with new ideas.  Today is going to be a busy one. I have some things to do around the house… The vision clinic called last Friday to let me know my glasses were in… what they failed to tell me was that they close early on Friday’s so it was too late by the time I got there. I’ve been waiting all weekend yet again for new eyes and today I finally get them. I’m praying they did a better job on the bifocal line this time around. I also have to take a shower rod back to Walmart and pick up a few things needed around the house… then I have some shelf painting to do and some photos to take… and dinner to tackle.

Tonight we’re having Jambalaya … we had the ingredients so I figured why not! It’s a good way to celebrate a Monday and get the week off with a much needed “kick!”

Check back tomorrow for some pictures of my home improvement projects I’ve been working on! I have lots to share.

Fun with ATCs

Along with a handful of other smaller paintings I’m working on I finished this one up yesterday evening. This ATC was done for practicing technique and experimenting with colors and papers. I’m testing applying paints with various tools, from brushes and fingertips to baby wipes and splatters. I love the baby wipe method… since they are damp if you don’t like what you’ve done, granted you’re using light layering… you can either wipe it off or blend it in. For a small project this was very in depth. I’m ready to try it on a much larger surface now. I need to buy some super sized canvases so I can make some art for our living room. I think I’m going to do something along the lines of this style… in soft blues and greens with bits of yellow and apricot. I’m not sure what my main focus will be but the flower are pretty sweet.

Today is grocery day and I’m really dragging… again with the up to late reading ritual! I really have to learn to turn the light out at a decent hour. I’m half way through The Hiding Place and I quit last night at a very “scary” spot so tonight will be interesting. I’ve also added the movie to our Netflix so I can watch it after I’ve finished the book. It’s time for me to get ready to head out so I’ll see you tomorrow when I share a new category that I’m going to be introducing to my blog. It’s something that came to me while working through a painting process. See you then!

St. Patty

St. Patty

I finally managed to get a tiny bit of artwork done. This larger-than-life ATC was created with St. Patrick’s Day in mind. I’m hoping to get the other painting I started done this week as well. I feel as though I’m coming down with a cold, my head is throbbing and I’m coughing and sneezing off and on today. I think some nice hot tea with lots of honey is in order. I can curl up in a blanket at my desk and paint.

I’ve also been having some issues with the back of my knee that hasn’t improved so I’m thinking I might have to see my doctor about it. Bleh! I’m so tired of Dr’s. from last year’s ankle fiasco! I did take to bringing my sketch book with me though so my time in the waiting rooms was spent doing something I enjoy.

The bank now has two weeks to get back to us. We asked them for a response within 30 days, but it feels more like 300. I spent part of the weekend making another list of homes to view in case this doesn’t go through. There are so many properties for sale and so many foreclosures and short sales… it’s rather sad. I’ll be emailing our real estate agent with the list to ask for an appointment. (I hope this cold goes away fast… I don’t want a migraine while house hunting!)

Today’s creative kitchen includes potato pancakes on the menu. I’ll let you know how they turn out tomorrow. I’m off to make tea now and bundle in a blankie!

In the Pink

Art Supplies in the Pink
I finally got around to taking a quick snapshot of the pink bins in my white cabinet. I think they turned out precious and I’m excited about putting my studio together. We are in a waiting game with the bank right now but I did hear this morning that the file for our offer is in the hands of the negotiator so it’s further along than we had thought. Prayers please! We have a price limit and don’t want them to come back too high on this home. We are both at peace about moving out of our ‘comfort zone’ and discovering the opposite side of our ever-growing Capitol city.

My art time has been limited lately as my focus has been on sorting through drawers and cupboards, cabinets, and boxes. It’s amazing how “junk” piles up around us and we don’t even see it until we really focus. There is so much stuff we can get rid of and won’t have to move that it’s a joy to donate as much as possible!

The green beans from Monday night were a big hit and so was last night’s homemade chili with cornbread. Tonight it’s a mustard/vinegar marinated beef that will be served Beef Stroganoff style with a baked potato instead of noodles. Since I have to cook anyway I’ve moved my artistic skills to the kitchen to be able to “create” since my painting is coming along ever so slowly right now. I am still working on the two pieces I showed you here.  It’s been a whole week and I’m ‘almost’ done with the ATC… that’s how slow things are at the art table this past week. (Sad Face!)
It’s time again for Whispering Wednesday so here’s a few random things from me to you.

  • I’ve been following the Charlie Sheen “train wreck”
  • I have a small but growing collection of small crosses and rosary’s
  • I fell out of the car when I was five years old (I only got a few scrapes and bruises… and lots of candy)
  • I remember what I was wearing when I fell out of the car
  • I’m secretly planning a garden for the back yard in my head

Queen of Hearts

Queen of Hearts
Having still more fun with ATCs and Alice in Wonderland. Doing my version of the Queen of Hearts was a lot of fun. Who doesn’t love hearts! I LOVED this character in the movie. She played her part wonderfully. She was bold, imaginative, and funny. This was done on a precut illustration board ATC. First I drew the Queen and as always the first thing I do is the face. I used chalk pencils for her face and her hair then did a wash with red paint to add more vibrance. I used felt pens, microns, rubberstamps with acrylic paints, Zig painty metallic pen, tiny little heart stickers, gold leafing, and liquid appliqué. I finished off the edges of the card with DecoArt Elegant Finish in Emperor’s Gold. I LOVE the color of this paint.
I think I’ll be doing the Mad Hatter next, but first I’ll be playing with a drawing a did while resting my ankle on fluffy pillows on the couch. Here’s the drawing. It’s done on watercolor paper. I scanned it and darkened the lines in Photoshop so you could see it better. The actually drawing’s lines are very faint that they barely show. I’m looking forward to playing with this over the weekend. I need the distraction to keep my mind busy while I wait for next week and my blood work to get done… Then the waiting begins… As they say ~ Art Saves! Happy TGIF to all of you and Prayers please if you can spare some. Thanks and God Bless!

Tweedles

More messing around with ATCs while I wait for my new vision to arrive at the Dr’s Office. I’ll be sure to take a picture of my new specs when I get them. It’s weird to look at an ATC in such a large size. This picture is actually 4 times larger than the actual card. I’ve been playing with the theme of Alice in Wonderland and this one got a little wacky and fun. We all giggled at it here. Tomorrow will be the Queen of Hearts, I was going to post her today buy my eyes got all buggy. So we went grocery shopping instead. (And I managed to pick up a few paints and a package of ATCs to continue my Alice theme. Since tomorrow’s going to be hotter than today and it’s hot enough for air conditioning at the moment getting errands done prior to any heat-wave is always a plus for me. I’ve been buying P.F. Chang’s on grocery shopping day and whipping it up for dinner with a cup of instant rice neatly placed on the using a measuring cup to scoop it out and make it look fancy on the side. It’s a SUPER easy way to make a fast and stress-less dinner after having shopped and put away all the food. Zero stress factor food at a decent price. AND.. it really does taste awesome. That’s it for now. I DID buy some new stronger readers so I’ll be testing them out to see if I can actually do some art. But for now, It’s time to rest my ankle. See you soon…. And please, share your your super easy fast and yummy dinner ideas with me! Anything that keeps me painting longer and cooking less right now is extremely welcome! Hee!

Golden Rose

♥ Golden Rose ♥
Another ATC fresh from the worlds tiniest easel.I made this ATC with the help of plenty of eye drops given to me by the Dr. (given meaning… that’ll be $12.00 please.) This ATC is for the Week 8 challenge at Eraser Queens challenge blog. I couldn’t wait to do this challenge as I’m a real sucker for anything PINK! But if you frequent my blog you know my passion for pink. The challenge was to use the colors Rose, White, and Gold. I think I pulled it off rather well. And now my eyes are exhausted. The Dr. found a few clouds in the photos of my right eye so I had to make an appointment upon his insistence with my family Dr. I have to wait for the papers for my blood panel to show up before I can do that. Then I go to my Dr. on the 31st of August. This year has been a non-stop trip to one doctor or another. Then I have to go back to my eye Dr in 3 months for a check on my dry eyes. He said they were the driest eyes he’d ever seen, which by no means surprises me as they constantly feel like sand paper.  My ankle Dr moved my appointment from this Friday to next Tuesday so I have that to “look forward to” /sigh. My calendar is now booked through November with one appointment or another with Dr visits. Not to mention follow up appointment to find out what’s causing the clouds in my eyes. I hope you’re clear eyed and focused! Until tomorrow.. I’m off to rest my eyes with a cold cloth laid over them for a few. Have a great hump day! And EAT your carrots!

Alice … Alice!

Ξ August 10th, 2010 | → 1 Comments | ∇ Art-tastic, ATC, Etsy, Les Petite Dolls, Tammy's Toys |

♥ Alice … Alice ♥
Playing with more ATCs. Who can resist Alice. I’ve watched Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland four times now… and each time I do I see something new. I love the graphics in the movie and the costumes! I also adore the humor of Johnny Depp at The Hatter. I love, love, love his hat in this movie and put atop Alice’s head on this ATC. This piece is done mostly with pastel pencils, collaging elements, and micron pens. I used a bit of acrylic paints, liquid appliqué, and sparkle glaze. She turned out rather sweet. I’ll be putting some of my ATCs in my Etsy store this week. I’m very anxious to get my new glasses and have been shopping for frames at Zinni Optical I have several I’ve decided on and will probably get more then one pair. This is a great way to get affordable glasses. Just make sure you don’t start adding tons of expensive coatings and such from the drop down menu. =) It’s 2sday again, and time for Show-&-Tell. So here’s what I pulled out of the toy box this morning.

Tammy’s Toys

Another fun item. I got this in a bag of “goodies” and just love the tin! Looking at it now I’m thinking it would be quite a fun thing to turn into a painting. The colors are great. These are a great calorie free snack too! Just don’t swallow the splinters. They make me think of the cinnamon toothpicks we had as kids. I sure do miss those. Well, time to get back to being busy.. I’ll be back tomorrow, I hope to see you here.

Squiggles the Snake

Squiggles the Snake
I’ve been playing around making some ATCs while I await my eye appointment. I’ve lost my “attention to detail” and need new glasses. My reading glasses also need replaced. I’m not one who really likes going to the Dr and usually try to put it off until absolutely necessary. Okay.. so now I’ve reached that point. I can’t see as well as I’d like to for painting. I only really noticed it while making this ATC. I won’t tell you why as if I do you’ll instantly see my flaws. =) HEE! Sneaky lil snake that I yam! This funny little guy is made using Micron pens and chalk pencils. He’s truly not quite finished yet and as soon as he is I’ll put my stamp of approval on him… AKA~ my signature. I’ll add the final touches and tweaks when my new glasses come in. Until then, I’ll be doing sketches, concept art,  and works in progress so I don’t go through art withdrawal. I’ll also be cleaning my desk again and doing a bit of living room decorating. I’ll be sure to share so stay tuned… I have another ATC to share with you tomorrow as well. Think ~ ALICE! =)
