Psalm Sunday

Psalm 2
I thought using a map for today’s Psalm was the perfect choice given the promise from God. This is from the NIV Bible and can be read here.  I used the TP cardboard and covered it with torn map pieces, tissue paper, paints, a golden moon sticker and a sprinkling of gold star confetti. I also rubber-stamped some countries onto the map before layering my tissue over them. I have a stack of these TP treasures piling up and will be laying some this coming week with vintage sheet music and some text pages from old books. It’s a very therapeutic process prepping the surface for creating on. It’s somehow very calming. I really enjoy it.

It’s going to be another hot day again today… bleh! (I so love when it rains!) I think I’ll hang out on the sofa with my Kindle in front of the air conditioner! So I’ll see you again tomorrow and hopefully it will be a tad cooler out.

Happy Sunday and God Bless You!

How Things Come Together….

Ξ July 22nd, 2011 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Around The House, Challenges, Chatter, On The Move, Photography |

This shelf was in our last bathroom… back in the day (3 months ago) when we all shared the same bath.) I painted it with three coats of semi gloss and it looks stunning and ready for decorations. I placed a tiny candle on it that will soon be replaced with …

The tall one in the middle. I think it will make the perfect focal point for the shelf along with a few seashells and such. I’ll use the glass tiled “vase” for cut greens from the front hedges. The bathroom will have a bit of life and with the skylight the greens will fit right in and it will give it that finished look for the room. I’ll include a finished photo when I’ve completed this little project. I’m just glad I found a place to hang my first “flower” painting. I’m starting to fall in love with the green/blue swimming colors that combine so well when wet. They blend so well and look so scrumptious that it’s hard to stop working with them.

Last night after dinner I went outside to the back yard with a hoe and started in… I did the entire length of the back yard +! I only have a small section to go. I’m ready to plant! OMG… you have no idea how much work that really was… how every muscle ached and how the sweat was dripping from my brow. It was SO WORTH it! I’m very excited about getting roots in the ground from various plants. I have two that will be ready this weekend…I’m not sure I can move today. Heh!

Later today it’s a trip to Fred Meyer to spend the last of my points on curtains and then I’m done until it’s time to hang the shelf … much like the bathroom shelf I painted, but much longer… in my bedroom. Things are coming together very nicely and I’m thrilled to share the journey.

A look at my retreat

Ξ July 20th, 2011 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Around The House, Challenges, Chatter, For The Kingdom, On The Move, Reading Room, The Healing Garden, Whispering Wednesday |

Here’s a picture of my room shortly after moving in…. and below is how it looks today…

I’m still working on it but I feel so good about getting my shadow boxes repainted and hung. My dad made them for me many moons ago for another house… they served as window treatments in a huge store-front style window. After a few coats of satin white they gleam again and look fresh as a daisy and ready for art and nik naks to display.  My nightstands are perfect for this room so I was really happy to have the added white furniture as I’m using such strong colors that anything else might overwhelm. On my night stand on the left of the picture I have a small-yet-growing collection of crosses that I plan to hang over my closet doors. I have some of my art popped on the shelves of the shadow boxes and a few reading lamps clipped to my headboard. I’ll be swapping them out when I find what I’m after… everything I’ve found so far is to bright and the bulbs for the lamps don’t come in 20w…. so my search continues. I have one of my bibles on the left with a notebook, and on the right I have my Kindle and a book that’s on my list to read. The photos are of my parents and my favorite kiddo.

I’m going to Walmart today to see if I can find some sheers for my headboard backdrop… and to find a frame for a poster of the Eiffel Tower my mom bought me… I’m also going to be looking for something to hang a very long shelf with. So I’m excited to venture out today (and sneak down the art aisle!)  I’ll share the shelf and art poster after I get that area started… right now it’s just a blank wall. Let me know what you think and if you have any creative juice ideas please share! I’m always open to suggestion!

My whisper for today is simple…

  • I’m reading my bible more and more lately.

Until tomorrow… when I have some art to share… God Bless and take care!

Broken Toys

Ξ July 19th, 2011 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Around The House, Challenges, For The Kingdom, Tammy's Toys, The Healing Garden |

I’ve been limping by on these while I’ve been waiting… and waiting for my new glasses. Yesterday we hopped into the car to head to Walmart to buy some needed home items and then swing by the Vision Clinic on the way home to pick up my new specs. We got ready, locked up the house and headed out… We got all seat-belted in and ready… Car wouldn’t start. We popped the hood, checked ALL fluids, jiggled connections and tried again… Car wouldn’t start.  I don’t have my own car. I rely kindly on my college-age son for transportation to and from where I need to go. I was truly heart broken to the point of tears.

The car wasn’t the only thing to break yesterday. We had our team of support come after work to find out what was wrong… it appears it’s a simple fix with a part that’s less than $20… YAY! My sons father found one … came back with it only to find out that one of the parts that goes with it is the wrong one. (I called AND emailed the photos of the correct part to the place we purchased the “wrong” part from… still no word and it’s been about an hour.)

My heart truly sank and it’s stuck in a sinking feeling this morning because of the lack of phone call or email from the parts place… DUDE… if you DON”T have the part you need to let me know so I can get on the phone and find one. TODAY! My week is slowly being destroyed.

After the mayhem had settled down yesterday evening my hubs and I decided it was time to treat ourselves for good deeds done and those intended to get done… He with a bowl of Vanilla Bean ice cream with chocolate syrup and myself with the last teeny container of banana pudding with a scoop of frozen cool whip and a drizzle of choco syrup! Nom Nom! Well, after everything was dished up and all the stuff was put away… he looked at me and told me I looked like I needed a hug. (I did!) He set his bowl down on the counter, mine still in my hand I wrapped my arms around his neck and his foot accidently hit my “bad” ankle… The bowl slipped and went crashing to smithereens to the floor.

That was it for me. My day was done. I just couldn’t take any more. I went upstairs to my room and closed the door… lay down on my bed and wept. Some days are just too much. I’ve been waiting SO long for my new glasses to finally be fixed and to actually “see” again. I so had my heart set on getting some much needed chores done and everything just fell apart yesterday. I stayed in my room the rest of the evening reading Psalms and drifted off to sleep. When I woke this morning… the glasses I’ve been limping by on were broken.

I don’t have a toy today for 2sdays Toys… instead I’m sharing a poem… I hope it helps you in your time of need as it’s helping me now.

As children bring their broken toys,
With tears, for us to mend;
I brought my broken dreams to God
because he was my friend.

But then instead of leaving him in peace to work alone,
I hung around and tried to help with ways that were my own.

At last, I snatched them back and cried,
“How could you be so slow?”
“My child,” He said, “What could I do?
You never did let go….”

Psalm Sunday

Psalm Sunday

Given that I have a plethora of toilet paper rolls to work with… and that I’ve nearly finished the backgrounds of the five I started with an idea came to me about what to do with this different form of art. … To better myself I started reading the Psalms in my bible. What better way to share the word than to do so in the form of art. This is the first Psalm, and I picked the quote “He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water.” I thought that was the perfect phrase for this pieces as I used the maple seeds that blew off in the wind. I picked them up and pressed them between paper towels for a few weeks. I think this turned out perfect for the introduction to my new category. What a fun way to learn the Psalms and to share God’s word as well as sharing art. Maybe you’ll hop on the bandwagon and do a weekly Psalm with me… if you do let me know, I’d LOVE to see what you come up with. Maybe Psalm ATCs… that would be fun.

I scanned this with a brown paper bag behind it… I’m not sure yet how I’ll mount these or even if I will. They are mailable as they are so they would make great inspirational gifts for loved ones. If I don’t adhere these to anything I’ll be printing out the Psalm and gluing it onto the back so that the recipient will have the entire verse at hand.

As for my TP rolls… in God’s eyes… everything old is new again!

Toilet Paper Treasures!

Ξ July 15th, 2011 | → 2 Comments | ∇ Around The House, Art-tastic, Challenges, Chatter, For The Kingdom, Supplies/Techniques |

Using up-cycled toilet paper rolls I’m creating something that will be posted on Sunday… This is for my new Category that I hope will become a weekly posting. I took the TP roll and cut it with scissors lengthwise. Using a spray bottle with water I misted it until it was just pliable and flattened it using my hand. Then I did the same on the opposite side. I let them dry before applying layers of printed papers. I used a Trader Joe’s newsprint fryer for these. Next time I’m using vintage sheet music. After they dried I started by using very crumpled tissue paper and mod podge. I gently flattened out the tissue and used a mist of water from the spray bottle and adhered with mod podge on both bottom and top. Let dry again… and then the fun really began! Using different color schemes I used baby wipes, paper towels, fingers, paint brushes, bubble wrap and other found objects to apply paints. With some you can apply when they are both wet but with others because of the color difference it’s best to let them dry between coats or the colors become muddy.

After you’ve complete that part of the process you can pull out your embellishments and have fun! As these are not done yet I will give more detail about each one when I post them individually. As you can see in the photo the blue/green one has wet mod podge on the umbrella so I’m in play mode right now. I just wanted to take a bit of time to tell you not to toss the TP!  You can make ART on EVERYTHING!  Back tomorrow with an update on one thing or another… until then… God Bless You!

By the way… I got this idea from Hands and Heart and want to share her link.

Button, Button, Who’s got the Button!

Pencil Paradise

Or whatever else you can imagine putting into a shabby chic, creatively crafted upcycled Spam can. Using  a brown paper bag I crinkle it up and semi smoothed it out and mod podged it to the can. Then I used a stencil and with orange and pink paints…. following up with black charcoal and a Q-tip for blending. I used the same technique around the edge that I used on the Jealous Heart can with the black nail polish. I then accented with some “sticker style tape in orange.” I sponged the bottom rim with waterproof black ink and used some black hemp to lace the circle themed button as the main accent.

These cans are going to be great for all room in your home as well as your office. They make great planters for small pop’s of greenery… great for Q-tips, Toothpaste and Toothbrushes in your bathroom, awesome for office supplies and cute for shelfs to hold things like matches for your candles, or anything that you want handy and readied at your fingertips in a classy container!

This is number 2 in a series of God only knows how many! I’ll have to Google Spam recipes so that the family won’t tire of the stuff and I’ll have my tin canvases to work with. Until tomorrow! God Bless!

Jealous Heart

Jealous Heart

Spam can #1 done! … I used vintage sheet music, mod podge, wooden tiles, acrylic paints, rhinestones, glitter paints, tinsel confetti, heart stickers, black nail polish, black rubber-stamp ink, and topped it all off with an additional coat of mod podge. I lined the tin with tissue paper and inserted some brand new pencils. Whatcha think?

I just started a new tin as well. This one is being mod podged with torn brown paper bags. I bought THEE most awesome BIG buttons yesterday at Walmart that I’ll be using as the “centerpiece” of the next Spam-Can. So tune in tomorrow to see what I’m doing with paper bags, buttons, and old cans. I’m loving making the old new again. It’s really a fun process. I’m going to be making and posting these treasure holders on Etsy so be sure to check in soon in my shop to see what creative mischief I’ve been up to.

Again… it’s hump day and time for a few “secrets” about me.

  • I just tested myself for ADHD as I’m usually back and forth during the creative process… Thankfully I failed the test.
  • I usually take only half the meds my doc prescribes as some really aren’t necessary and they make me REALLY thirsty.
  • I’m an art supply hoarder and REALLY miss my old wallpaper books I had to abandon ten years ago.

Tiny Tiles

Just one of the things I’ve made so far with my Tiny Tiles. I pinned this one to my “messenger-bag-style” purse.  FUN. I’m thinking I could make a mobile with these too!

That’s it for today. I just wanted to touch base and say hi. Tune in tomorrow for a preview of my latest WIP.

Packaged & Posted!

Ξ June 13th, 2011 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Art-tastic, Big Eyed Girls, Challenges, Etsy, Greetings Line, Jewelry, Les Petite Dolls |

Done at last! I’ve been cutting and trimming, and cutting and trimming, and cutting and trimming! I made over 50 of these teeny tiny treasures and had a blast doing it. I started with mini prints of my paintings that I tweaked in Photoshop. I cut them out using a box knife and then I glued them onto chipboard that I saved from some packaging. Then I used the box knife again and cut them out again. I glued complimenting collaging papers to the backs of each tile and cut them out again… this time with some small super sharp scissors. Next I mod podged them with 3 coats on each side to add strength and a nice coating for the super glossy varnish I used on them. Lastly I painted the edges of each and every time with acrylic paint to make it look more finished and give it a “real” painting look.
These gems are limited only by your imagination… some of the uses I’ve come up for them are:

  • Scrap-booking
  • Charms
  • Do-it-yourself craft projects
  • Decorate your locker…dorm…journal
  • Make flip flop ornaments
  • Turn them into magnets
  • Punch a hole and add earring hooks
  • Transform them into thumbtacks
  • Add them to your artwork
  • Hang them in your doll house
  • Collect them and make a collage
  • Make a greeting card
I’m going to be playing with a few later this week to see what kinds of fun and funky flashy favorites I can come up with. Once I get started I’m sure my imagination will take over and I’ll be left in the dust!
I have posted these Tiny Tiles on Etsy so please click on by and check them out. You’ll be able to see a variety of Tiny Tiles today. I haven’t yet posted all of the one’s I’ve made as I have so many, if you can’t find what you’re looking for let me know and I’ll do my best to make you happy! Thanks for dropping by and I hope your Monday rocked!

Off to make spaghetti now… Nom Nom!
