America The Beautiful

God Bless America. I was inspired to create these flag pins/tags while watching one of the …many… GOP debates that have been occurring over the past many months.  They are not yet done but you get the idea so far to the design that I’ve chosen… the one star is to represent One Nation under God. … I will be adding a hanger to string a chain through and also I’ll be adding a blue safety pin with them so you can pin the pendant on the … “donkey: … HAH! I guess that’s political enough.

I’m picking up the glue today to finish these lil gems and I’ll share them so you can see my vision once they are completed… do check back soon… I have some accidental art that I created over last weekend that I think you’ll find amusing.

Have awe inspired TGIF!

Noah’s Ark

I went completely whimsical on this. I tried to be a tad more serious with this but I think I heard God say… “lighten up”… so I did. With googly eyes and extinct birds and all! This smile provoking painting is a joy to me and will have a partner coming soon with Noah making an appearance.

Here are a few close ups of the fun I had.

Now you “Noah” was I’ve been up to.. what have you been doing?

If I were a bird I’d love living in one of these shabby chic houses. Even the dragon flies dig hanging around them. This was a labor of love. I’m having a great time playing with these new painting/collage creations. I have yet another one on my desk that I’ll title “Bloom” for now.

I started this with a rough wooden panel. After applying gesso to the surface I layered it with crumpled tissue papers, paints, glitters, gel pens, finger painting and then added the flowers… birdhouses, branches, and dragonflies. The edges are painted black and the back has collage paper on it to cover the wood. It turned out wonderful and goes well with the House Numbers painting. I plan on a series that includes eight collage/paintings similar to this.

I’ll see you tomorrow with Noah’s Ark… a fun and whimsical piece that truly makes me smile.

Until then!

Occupy … and stuff

Ξ January 24th, 2012 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Around The House, Art-tastic, Chatter, For The Kingdom |

I had fun playing with torn papers, stamps, embellishments, pens, paints, and oodles of other goodies making this Valentine collage. I took advantage of the Occupy movement and moved it to my heart! Right were it belongs. What a fun expression. I used paper umbrellas, brads, confetti, and much more that just doesn’t show up in this photo. I’ll try to get a scan of this painting this week and share a better close up of this punch of color!

I’ve been having lots of fun in my studio this new year. I’ve created everything from my clay acorns and cardboard birds to more recycled tins, collages and art journal fun. I’m working on some more tins for hanging on the wall and will share them as I can.

I’m also working on a art doll that I made over ten years ago… I’ve covered the clay with tissue paper so that I have a base to work from. Let me know what you see in this doll … I could use a boost of inspiration!

So far all I’ve come up with is Crash Test Mummy…. OY!

See you tomorrow for more amusement!

Santa’s Workshop

Here’s my mini tree close up. I added some yummy to it over the weekend. I’m busy, busy, busy today creating Christmas goodness for loved ones and family. I’ll share some of what I can with you later this week. I have one more item to work on today and then tomorrow I’m going to make my own Christmas tags similar to the ones I made for my aunt. I think it will be a fun project… and I can do my cutting in front of the TV in the evening while relaxing.

I’m also working on a garage door opener holder for my purse. I keep bumping the opener and accidentally opening the door with my purse so thanks to an idea that my hubs came up with I’m creating something “cute” to keep my opener in. I’m doing much up-cycling this year for sure!
I’ll share it with you tomorrow as it’s drying right now between coats of paints…. and such!

Hooper, our neighborhood squirrel stopped by quite frequently this past weekend to visit and nibble while I was sitting at the back window reading. I snapped his picture to share with you. The yard has been extremely active this pre-winter. It’s alive with Goldfinches, House Finches, Chickadees, Nuthatches, Doves, Starlings, and Flickers… And I’m enjoying them all so much! I’ll share pictures am often as possible…

Until tomorrow and some pictures of art… God Bless!

Oh Christmas Tree

Ξ December 9th, 2011 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Altered Art, Around The House, Art-tastic, For The Kingdom |

A bit late, but as promised here’s my studio Christmas tree. I’ve since added some additional decorations to it and will take a close up shot of it to share tomorrow along with some of the art I’ve been creating. I’ve been very busy around the house with chores, decorating for Christmas, creating Christmas presents, tending to the birds, and just trying to keep up on the season.

I’ve doing working/playing on a lot of up-cycled Christmas presents this year. Something different and fun. I finally came up with an idea for the reuse of juice can lids. Tune in tomorrow to see the scoop!

Until tomorrow… I’m back to getting my fingers all glued up with a beautiful mess!

God Bless!

Winter Storm

Ξ November 30th, 2011 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Around The House, For The Kingdom, Photography, The Great Outdoors!, The Healing Garden |

After a week of extreme wind storms all thats left on the Maple tree outside the landing window are two gorgeous gems that God painted extremely more radiant than the rest of the tree. I have been enjoying these two leaves for weeks as they’ve been bursting ever brighter with vibrant color. To me they are a special gift from God letting me enjoy autumn even more. Each time I climb the stairs I pause a moment and enjoy them.

Aren’t they just beautiful? What a joyful thing… two tiny leaves clinging tightly together to hang on as long as possible to the beauty that is Fall.

I’ve been busy with things around the house. Thanksgiving was my birthday, our car died… literally. We had to buy something new. We went out of town for the day on Turkey day for dinner… we bought our Christmas tree and ornaments over the weekend and I’ve been decorating for Christmas this week. It’s wonderful not to decorate the same way as I had to the past 6 years in our rented home. Tomorrow I will show you my Christmas tree that I put in my studio. It’s absolutely adorable. For now I’m off to work on Christmas gifts and use up some of my creative energy. I’ll share SOON! Have an awesome Wednesday and keep the faith.

I’m finally at peace with my blogging tool. I’ve been emailing the help desk off and on over the past few days and this morning I got my solution. And I got my old version of ScribeFire back! I’m a happy blogger now. I could not make heads or tails out of the new …simplified… version. As they say, “If it’s not broke, don’t fix it!” Word!

I’ve been working on this peace banner over the past week and it’s finally ready to share. I still have to put eye hooks in the sides for stringing it but for the most part it’s… Internet ready.

Next I’m working on price tags for my auntie. She wants around 200 of them so I’ll be very busy with Photoshop and scissors making tags with a statement. Wish me luck. As for now it’s time for me to Occupy my Studio! See you tomorrow with something or another.

God Bless!

Greenhouse Growth

Ξ November 4th, 2011 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Around The House, For The Kingdom, Photography, The Great Outdoors!, The Healing Garden |

Mom’s greenhouse is like falling into the looking glass. A lot of what she does in her experimental lab is to grow things that would not have been grown otherwise. The cactus at the top is a lethal weapon! The hens and chicks come back from the dead in the middle photo and the bottom picture is an amazement all it’s own. The cluster of web-like cacti looks amazing…. yet when mom put just a few in a different pot… this was the result….

It’s like two different plants! I LOVE plants. There was a time in my life when I had well over 150 healthy house plants. I was going to grab a few of these little websters for my own indoor garden but I’ll have to do it next visit. When we were house hunting we came across a home that was ideal! It had gorgeous hardwood floors… and we aren’t talking laminate. It had an extra potty in the garage with a pencil sharpener in it… I thought that was awesome. AND it had a green house. Sadly the house was just a bit too small for us. But I still think about it.  And I long for a greenhouse in heaven!

Don’t be Cross

Ξ October 27th, 2011 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Around The House, For The Kingdom, Jewelry, Photography, The Healing Garden |

This is what I wanted to share today. This is my mom’s rosary collection. (or at least part of it.) Being raised Catholic I can appreciate her love for these meaningful prayer beads … as you’ve seen in photos of mine before I have a small collection myself…and some are still in storage. I love how she’s displayed them in her bedroom with delicate scarves framing them from behind.

She also has a collection of tiny crosses that are from necklaces and rosaries and objects long ago broken. Most of her rosaries and crosses she’s picked up at flea markets, antique shops both local and from travels to relatives scatter around the country. It’s fun to listen to the stories of where each one was discovered and what state she found them in.

I’m busy working on some art today but needed a break to shop and to clean house. We have a birthday boy celebrating his big day tomorrow and I’ve been wrapping presents are the UPS has been delivering them… one at a time! The last one just showed up… got wrapped and is ready. I made a tiramisu for his birthday and it’s chilling in the fridge for tomorrow. The cheese is setting back up so it won’t be too squishy. I hunted high and low for ladyfingers but had to finally settle on biscotti. We thought it would work just fine. I guess we’ll find out tomorrow.

Until then… Have a great pre-Friday and take time to smell the autumn air… it’s crispy and full of promise.

Over and out till tomorrow my mateys~
