You Have To Break A Few Eggs…

Ξ April 16th, 2012 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Accidental Art, Altered Art, Around The House, Art-tastic, For The Kingdom, Fun with Food, The Healing Garden |

Here’s what’s left of the eggs I dyed for Easter. The wonderful intensity of the colors was too good to pass up. I just had to save them for using in my art. I’ll share once I’ve used some. Right now however, I’m working on finishing up the paintings I’m creating for the living room. ‘Almost’ done!  I have a few things to finish up on them and then I have the edges of the canvases to deal with …

This weekend my Dad went into the hospital with a mild case of pneumonia, A-fib, and somethings wrong with his blood sugar. Any prayers would be greatly appreciated. He is a very much loved man and a pillar to his family and friends. He may be transfered today to a bigger hospital here in town… I’ll keep you posted.

I’ve some other things to share as well, but I don’t have the pictures yet so I’ll share those this week. I’m off to say my prayers and work on my paintings.

God Bless!

Everythings Coming Up Spoons…

Finally touches of gorgeous green are popping up everywhere! This is the maple tree as seen from the stairway landing. I’ve been watching these buds grow everyday and decided today was the day to share these gems with you.

I also have some other flowers popping up in a kitchen basket that I thought I should post.

Okay, so they are a little addictive to make. That’s the fun of it. I’m hitting the grocer today and you can bet I’ll have a package or two of wooden spoons in my cart to add to my funky family!

Today I’m working again on my paintings and I’m happy to report that I’m delighted with how they are turning out so far… I promise an update as soon as I can.

Back to getting my hands dirty!  Happy TGIF!

Making Blossoms

Ξ April 12th, 2012 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Around The House, Art-tastic, Photography, Supplies/Techniques, The Great Outdoors!, The Healing Garden |

I’m working on a pair of paintings to hang in the living room over our new couch… Which I will reveal once I have the paintings finished and hung. I’m making flower blossoms today to go on one of the paintings. I’m working on them both at the same time to keep with the cohesiveness of them both. Here’s the pretty yellow I’m using for part of the flowers.

And here’s the blossoms before I’ve added the black centers. … They will be growing in … this garden.

For some reason this undertaking is a bit overwhelming to me. Maybe because I’m used to working on smaller canvases… and maybe because they are going to be showcased in my house. Maybe both!

I’ll keep you posted as I go.

What favorite art do you have hanging in your home?

Dream Homes

Ξ March 13th, 2012 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Altered Art, Around The House, Art-tastic, For The Kingdom, The Great Outdoors!, The Healing Garden |

This little dream house is made from wood and covered with text pages. I pretty much finger painted this with blues and greens. I used Black Lava medium by Liquitex for the black speckles and made a flower from yellow tissue paper. I wrapped the house with funky fibers and topped it off with some beads and my label makers “dream” sticker. It’s a really fun accent piece that truly pops with color.

Here’s another dream home made from the middle of a TP roll. I made a box and used extra strips of TP cardboard for the roof. Covering the creation with text pages and tissue papers. Again I made some lavender crepe paper flowers and added green beads to the centers. I used my new Martha Stewart craft punch to make the leaves and added and old earring with the back cut off to the base of the inside to add some bling to this little cottage. I just goes to show you that your really can make a silk purse out of a sows ear!

What’s on your easel?

Noah’s Ark

I went completely whimsical on this. I tried to be a tad more serious with this but I think I heard God say… “lighten up”… so I did. With googly eyes and extinct birds and all! This smile provoking painting is a joy to me and will have a partner coming soon with Noah making an appearance.

Here are a few close ups of the fun I had.

Now you “Noah” was I’ve been up to.. what have you been doing?

If I were a bird I’d love living in one of these shabby chic houses. Even the dragon flies dig hanging around them. This was a labor of love. I’m having a great time playing with these new painting/collage creations. I have yet another one on my desk that I’ll title “Bloom” for now.

I started this with a rough wooden panel. After applying gesso to the surface I layered it with crumpled tissue papers, paints, glitters, gel pens, finger painting and then added the flowers… birdhouses, branches, and dragonflies. The edges are painted black and the back has collage paper on it to cover the wood. It turned out wonderful and goes well with the House Numbers painting. I plan on a series that includes eight collage/paintings similar to this.

I’ll see you tomorrow with Noah’s Ark… a fun and whimsical piece that truly makes me smile.

Until then!

Let Us Stamp!

Or… Lettuce stamp! Art is everywhere. This was FUN. I love how the blue blends in with the green of the lettuce.. I stamped a background on a painting I’m working on and I stamped out some flowers on some text pages for incorporating in something or other… possibly my current painting. Bring everything into your studio. Open your imagination and see the beauty and possibilities that present themselves everyday!

Happy Valentines Day to everyone. I woke to a sweet card and a lunch date this coming weekend. We did our taxes yesterday and were so pleased with the results we rewarded ourselves with the new Kindle Fire. I’ll be playing with it and testings it and I’ll keep you posted on the apps and whatnots!

I found a great recipe to fix for dinner for the hubs to pamper him… check this out…I have most of the ingredients and what I don’t have I’ll improvise on. =)

I’m outta here for now… I have a painting calling my name. HUGS and HEARTS to all!

Patchwork Flower

Ξ January 25th, 2012 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Around The House, Art-tastic, Journal Jazz, The Great Outdoors!, The Healing Garden |

I’m back to art journaling again. Christmas prep was super hectic this year and I used my journal as a relaxation tool. I randomly pasted down scraps of decorative napkins and papers and then doodled and painted what I saw. This was a fun flower in the depths of winter that brightened both my day and my mood. It was soothing to just doodle and glob paint where I saw fit.

Today I’m working on a composition for a painting I got the idea for yesterday.

Super fun. I can’t wait to pick papers and colors and scraps and goodies and bling and… and… and… This promises to be a joyful experience for me. I’ll share it with you as I journey down this villages path. Come back tomorrow to see if anyone home in there.

Word Birds

Ξ January 12th, 2012 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Altered Art, Around The House, Art-tastic, Supplies/Techniques, The Great Outdoors!, The Healing Garden |

I saw something very similar these “Word Birds” in the most recent edition of Cloth,  Paper, Scissors magazine and I knew instantly that I had to make these precious tweeters. I used recycled cardboard from Coke Zero boxes. (My morning crutch…) I love a boost of cold, caffeinated carbonation in the morning. Very unhealthy indeed, but it does the job while the coffee perks.

These are covered with decorative tissue papers and paper napkins. Then I embellished them with oodles of ephemera and bling… adding fishing line to hang them with and stringing some beads as well for a boost of shimmer and color. I hung them in my studio window for inspiration and the occasional grin they give me. I love how they swing in the breeze of a slightly open window or on colder days… the soft breath of the forced air heater. Super fun… Super easy, and super cute! I encourage you to make some tweetie birds for yourself!

Winter Storm

Ξ November 30th, 2011 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Around The House, For The Kingdom, Photography, The Great Outdoors!, The Healing Garden |

After a week of extreme wind storms all thats left on the Maple tree outside the landing window are two gorgeous gems that God painted extremely more radiant than the rest of the tree. I have been enjoying these two leaves for weeks as they’ve been bursting ever brighter with vibrant color. To me they are a special gift from God letting me enjoy autumn even more. Each time I climb the stairs I pause a moment and enjoy them.

Aren’t they just beautiful? What a joyful thing… two tiny leaves clinging tightly together to hang on as long as possible to the beauty that is Fall.

I’ve been busy with things around the house. Thanksgiving was my birthday, our car died… literally. We had to buy something new. We went out of town for the day on Turkey day for dinner… we bought our Christmas tree and ornaments over the weekend and I’ve been decorating for Christmas this week. It’s wonderful not to decorate the same way as I had to the past 6 years in our rented home. Tomorrow I will show you my Christmas tree that I put in my studio. It’s absolutely adorable. For now I’m off to work on Christmas gifts and use up some of my creative energy. I’ll share SOON! Have an awesome Wednesday and keep the faith.
